We have been informed that Rackspace will be rebooting servers later in the week for security upgrades. This will impact the availability of PrimeGrid's servers.

More details will be made available later, but as of right now, here's the schedule:

The main primegrid server will be rebooted between 2015-10-28 07:00:00 and 2015-10-28 09:00:00 UTC. ** COMPLETE **

The BOINC database replica will be rebooted between 2015-10-29 03:00:00 UTC and 2015-10-29 05:00:00 UTC. ** COMPLETE **

PRPNet will be rebooted between 2015-10-28 03:00:00 UTC and 2015-10-29 05:00:00 UTC. ** COMPLETE **

One thing that's not yet known is whether the server will be down briefly during the reboot or whether we'll proactively shut them down prior to the maintenance window. Best case scenario is each server is down for several minutes; worst case scenario is each server is down for the full 2 hours.

When the PRPNet server is down, all of PRPNet will be unavailable.

When the main PrimeGrid server is down, all web access on www.primegrid.com and all BOINC client services will be unavailable.

When the BOINC database replica is down, all PRPNet and BOINC features should be available, but there may be some delay in producing web pages on www.primegrid.com. Also, some offline activities such as stats generation may be temporarily disabled.

Later tonight or tomorrow, depending on your time zone, PrimeGrid's main server will go down for preventive maintenance.

We will take the server down at about 2015-10-28 06:55:00 UTC (2:55 AM EDT). If all goes according to plan, we should be back up no later than 09:00:00 UTC.

During this outage, all web access to www.primegrid.com will be disabled, and your BOINC clients will not be able to reach the server. Please plan accordingly.

PRPNet will not be affected.

Since the forums will not be available, I suggest using our chatroom. This is why we have an external chatroom -- for keeping in touch if the main system is down. Note that this is the middle of the night for Jim and myself, so we probably won't be very talkative.

Thanks for the heads-up. Crunchers can either adjust their cache settings or tough it out for a couple of hours if they prefer their tasks fresh-squeezed.

Or do some manual sieving :).

Coming to think about it, we could a countdown for the shutdown on the main page, just like we have countdowns for challenge. Should help people know that it's going to happen, as well as easing as to when it's going to happen.

The maintenance on the main BOINC server has been completed successfully.

Tonight's (tomorrow morning UTC) maintenance on the PRPNet and database replica servers is on schedule. PRPNet will be unavailable during the downtime. The database server's maintenance probably won't be noticeable by users.
