Projects interfere with other Windows apps

In my case, I have a USB port directly connected to the MB and a hub with 3 USB ports and other I/O attached through the power port on the Surface. I see a bit better transfer performance using the direct port (as opposed to the ones on the hub). In each case, I see PG/Boinc measurably degrades the IO to the USB disk. I have tested this using two different Seagate USB drives, which support SATA 600.

I have run PG with fewer CPU's than my max of eight, and with the CPU settings at 50%. I get the same result described. Plus, of course, PG runs with a low priority setting.

I'm not sure why, but Primegrid apps interfere with disk transfers, and I'm looking for a reason.
Background: Transferring a large number (>300K) of mostly small files from one USB external drive to another, or from one part of a drive to a different partition on the same drive; using File Explorer. When PG is running (this has been observed on a couple PG projects), the disk transfer rates drop by 2x (Rates reported change from 40 KB/s to 20KB/s for example). There is no other program explicitly using the disks as reported by PerfMon. There is lots of CPU time available and lots of memory. This is a Surface Laptop 3 i7 with 16GB of main memory. I have to suspend the PG work while the transfers need to occur, and they take hours sometimes.

DC Task

Until recently, I never saw a task descriptor of "DC Task" and "main task" in the status descriptor on the tasks page. Does anyone know what they mean?

CPU vs. Run times

this definition is what I thought was the case, but then I saw some contradictions. It would be nice if the def's (and other things ) were actually written down somewhere. I'll keep checking my tasks to be sure there isn't short between my headphones. thx.

excessive downloads

It seems curious that BOINC isn't better programmed by now to avoid this situation, though I never had the issue at S@H. Perhaps it isn't a huge problem for PG and so I shouldn't worry about it. I have gone back to 0 extra work, 0 days to see if the #aborts goes down. thx.

PrimeGrid seems to want to down load many more tasks than my computers are able to complete on time. The non-PG loading is very low on each of these, but they are always aborting tasks. It doesn't seem very efficient for PG to continue doing so. I'm not sure this is a comment or a question, assuming that I have control of the situation.

I thought I knew the difference at one time, but I can't find it written down. Now they don't make sense to me anymore. The two phrases are terms listed on the task reports. Would someone vector me to their actual definitions?

thanks. I guess I guess that but wasn't sure.
So, wouldn't 100P be a better limit, given it seems easier to remember?
Cheers.
