1) Message boards : Number crunching : The Earth Day Challenge (Message 22816)
Posted 4784 days ago by Profile Slicker [TopGun]
SG's Puzzle-Peter is crunching offline on boxes that aren't connected to the internet. He downloads the WUs on one box which he uses to upload the results too. To accomplish this task some major editing of the client_state.xml file (and other files) is necessary. This is most probably the cause for the 40,000 and 45,000 second runtimes (he had to insert some values for the duration).

I've read about people trying to create BOINC clusters. Puzzle-Peter's approach is quite different, but it sure works. Just when we thought we might be able to catch up to SG...STOMP! Nicely done and quite unexpected!

How does one person with only two computers earn 294199 points in a day and turn in so many WUs which all happen to have the same amount of CPU and Duration? I've never seen even two of my WUs return the same crunch time. Is there some off-line version of the app or something?

Someone else shared the answer with me. He uses a proxy to download the WUs and crunches them on other computers which are off-line, moves them back to the proxy when complete, and submits them.

4) Message boards : 321 Prime Search : 64 bit apps (Message 22234)

For many of the apps including 321 LLR, there are only 32-bit apps. Is that because it uses GMP and GMP doesn't play well with Win64? If so, have you checked out MPIR? It has 64-bit support for Windows and uses all the same methods as GMP. MPIR is slightly slower than GMP for Win32, but the 64 bit version of MPIR is much faster than running the 32-bit GMP on a 64 bit platform.
5) Message boards : AP26 - AP27 Search : AP26 on ATI Radeon (Message 21347)

Newest version http://www.sesef.pl/AP/AP26PGx86-461.zip

With BOINC support and app_info.xml

In the app info:

<max_ncpus>0.2/max_ncpus>

should be:

<max_ncpus>0.2</max_ncpus>

My machines keep downloading Proth Prime Search (Sieve) 1.12 even though I've told it to only run AP26 and have the setting unchecked to run other apps if the current one is out of work. It downloads them. I abort them. It downloads more. The box is a core 2 duo and has a CUDA card as well. I'd like to be able to crunch AP26 on both CPU and GPU, but if the CPU will only download sieve work, I'll move it to another project.

I just let it finish the sieve WUs and no more arrived since. Maybe it is a 1st time connect issue for a machine, but it appears to be working OK now.
