Really sucks that my host running GFN-18 is only running Proof tasks.
It seems that most all my host are running 90% Proof tasks.

My money to decide what I put it on.

Buy ground based hardware
- physical limit reached in the house;
- air-conditioning limit reached;
- electricity available from the main board reached
- cannot add any more power circuits without replacing mains board.

Decision to run cloud based computers - simple.

Funny, almost 2000 Cloud processors
Thank you for not hide in your hosts.

Currently 800 of 1x CPU (Intel premium) and 2 of T4 (GPU).
Now imagine for a moment if I had those as physical computers in my house? That's 200 quad cores. No room, purchase cost would be considerable, 9Kw cooling ac already maxed out in computer room, ducted ac in rest of house rs and being replaced at a cost of $8000 next week, mains power board full - no room to add any more general purpose outlets, electricity prices just increased 10 percent due to a war on the other side of the planet.

Use cloud - yes.

My hosts heat my home in the winter but most of them are turned off late Spring and I only run my hosts that are cooled with chillers.
So I do save on Gas in the Winter time but the sun only provides 1/3 of the power needed so my elect bill is still high $400-$500. Before without Solar it was between $600 and $700.
But I would never used Cloud Computing for BOINC Projects.
I am Old School with DC and with Cloud Computing being used it seems that BOINC will die out in the Home. BUT, I do not believe that Cloud Computing and dumb terminals will take over the Desktop or Laptop in the Homes, at least here in the US our internet cannot handle it and as long as the GOV controls the costs it would not be worth it for most. In my last work place dumb terminals started to take over the Desktop but they could not handle the apps that were used and they in no way can handle the Desktop Games that are now in use. PS5 and X-Box whatever may but not Cloud Computing and dumb terminals. But who knows what is ahead but for now Cloud Computing belongs in the work place.

Tour de Primes is really my only BOINC Fun Event each year and I will still keep going until my hosts stop working. Even though the fun is slowing dying out.

It seems that Uploads and Downloads are not working, Project Back off.

It's OK for me.

Yep! Seems to be OK now.

I've finally found my first mega! After 4026 days!

First TdP for 3 years. First M. First during MS. First MS M. All forum badges move done 1 line - very neat!

Thank you to all. There is now a sense of achievement after somewhat of a lull recently.

Now it's time to produce the book.

Nice!
Now the Addiction Starts.:)

I don't know why we're discussing this.
We should be discussing the fact that everyone who uses computers mainly for Boinc is using Boinc the wrong way!
Boinc is made to share your unneeded computing power with scientific projects that have a use for them.
So most of the people in this thread are doing this awfully wrong - including myself.

For the most part that is what I am doing. I like to put together Water Cooled Computers.
I have a Laptop and a Gaming Computer that I also runs BOINC Events.
My Servers are from when I was working and they were used to learn SharePoint on back in the day.
Some also were for fun with the Old BIG-ADV Days with Folding@Home.
Now they run WCG 7x24 and this month PG. I have given away 4 of my custom Water Loop Computers to other that really only Game on them but I know that they are very happy with them.
I am done with putting together Computers and for the most part will keep what I now have until they stop working and will run BOINC and Folding@Home, until that day comes then I stop altogether.
I would not buy or lease Cloud Computing to only run BOINC or Folding@Home.....

For some BOINC is like a Hobby not so different than collecting Stamps or Sea Shells.
My Signature is my collection.

I am a home user...
I run 4 computers to your 9 computers, is that "fair"?
If someone else ran 20 computers to your 9 would that also be "fair"?

As a home user I pay for electricity and opportunity cost for the floor space my computers take up, that is I pay someone money to have my computers operate. For those that run some of their computers on the cloud they too pay someone money to have their computers operate. No difference there...

I make due with what I have and I enjoy what results I do get. I have stopped worrying about the greenness of the neighbor's lawn a long time ago.

I have almost 20 pc's running at home and NO you don't want the electric bill that goes with them!! BUT I'm not a full time PG cruncher, I crunch for badges and badge upgrades and if I find Primes along the way, which I have, then that's all for the betterment of the Project. In fact even during this Challenge not all of my pc's are crunching for PG right now, they are doing other Projects that I am trying to reach goals in as well.

Nice!

Yes, I paid for what I have and pay the Elect Bill as well.
If the 20 Computers are in their home then Yes.
This is what is taking over and PG seems to want it more then home users that like to have fun.
Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS [4.15.0-121-generic|libc 2.27 (Ubuntu GLIBC 2.27-3ubuntu1.2)]
At least that is how I am seeing PG now.
BOINC in the home is going to die out in the next few years being their is no real environment for it in the home.
Offices and Schools are using their hardware most likely for free for some and I bet that even some Schools and Offices do not even know.
I do like Small Offices the run BOINC, some called the Mon and Pop Stores.
If you own your own business and run BOINC that is also great.
