I have a genefer20 task running, task name ending in _4 which I assume follows the same convention as other projects making it the 5th attempt at the task. Is there a way to look at previous attempts to see why some/all of them failed? Clicking on the work unit shows other attempts on completed tasks. Or alternatively is there a good reason that isn't immediately obvious to me why these are not shown when I click on the work unit link?

There is the story, that in the TdP, one aborted all tasks which were fininshed by another one before, so he is the initial finder of eventual primes. To avoid that, the project administrators started to hide the result until the workunit has a defined result.

I don't know if this is true, but in my Team's forum, this was mentioned the way described. Please correct me if this is wrong.

Best regard,
MiauiKatze

Thank you. That makes sense.

My main project, climateprediction.net doesn't use validation so clearly that wouldn't be an issue. I guess anyone trying to ensure they were the first rather than second person to find a prime would have to abort all tasks except initial ones ending in _0 Possible to automate with a script and boinccmd but even were I so inclined the chances of my finding one with the processing power of my GPU which is all I use for Prime Grid except when there is no work from CPDN are far too low for it to be worthwhile!

I think the tasks that end in _0 and _1 are symmetrical. They are created at the same time, and sent out at the same time (well, nearly the same time, but it is random which one goes first, _0 or _1). So you cannot infer anything from _0 versus _1.

If you get a task with _2, _3, _4, etc., you know some tasks from the work unit were aborted, timed out, in error, or in disagreement wrt. to the final residue. But it is still possible that you can become first, although the probability is hard to estimate.

The work unit details are hidden (suppressed) so it shall not be obvious whether you can still become 1st or not.

If you have a task in the work unit, as soon as your task's fate is final, the details are no longer hidden (suppressed) from you. If you do not have a task in that work unit (then you may get one later and) then details are still hidden until the fate of the entire work unit is known.

For LLR2 though, _1 is a second attempt.

I think in LLR2, it doesn't matter which run you run, not mattering if _0 or _1, because the previous one must be aborted, due to the automatic error correction.

So this "suppressed showing before completing" became useless, at least for LLR2 projects (It's what I am thinking...). It would be interesting if this "suppresion" could be deleted?

We do not hide results on LLR2 projects. We do not hide results on sieve projects. That leaves the various GFN projects, AP27, WW, SGS and PPSE as the only projects where results are hidden. Eventually we would like GFN, SGS and PPSE to also join the list of projects which don’t need to do full double checks or have hidden results.

To see, click a on a line in the Work unit column on this task list. The work unit you pick is unfinished but still visible. /JeppeSN
