I received a task [http://www.primegrid.com/workunit.php?wuid=701613047] [http://www.primegrid.com/result.php?resultid=1180389921] today. It hasn't started so far because of other tasks in the queue before it and I have suspended this task because I doubt I can finish it in time, because of the details:
Boinc client says, deadline is
Feb 11 02:10:57 and website says
12 Feb 2021 | 2:19:57 UTC
to report. My client estimates 40d 01:14:10 for computing. If that estimate is true, I'd report approx 32 d overdue. I know there's some grace period for every project I have participated so far. However I never encountered a project offering grace periods 4 times longer than original due date minus send date. And my computers take part in more than one project so I have to assume, that computing power will be shared until short before due date.
I wonder if it is wiser to abort this task as I have to assume that any CPU operation will be wasted because of not reporting within due date + grace period.
If not, what's behind issuing WUs with unrealistic due dates? Or is my client's estimate wrong?
