After running PrimeGrid for about 8 years, Jim and I have decided it's time to step down and get some new blood involved. While we don't yet know who that will be, it's time for us to go. To be clear, we're not leaving because of anything bad happening. It's actually the opposite of that: there's some exciting new things on the horizon, and we just don't have the drive or energy anymore. Rather than pass up these opportunities, it's time for someone else to take over.
There's a lot of things that need to be done. If you think you would like to be part of the new team, let us know.
EDIT: I made a wiki page of all the things we do. All the things that need to be done to run PrimeGrid: https://primegrid.fandom.com/wiki/PrimeGrid_administrator_responsibilities

What a shame...you guys have done an amazing job as this is definitely the best run project anywhere...youse are always there for any assistance or help, and might I add very quickly indeed.
Whomever takes over this role has some mighty big shoes to fill, which I for one don't think is going to be that easy.
Good luck guys on whatever youse do in the future, and hopefully you will pop in from time to time on the boards as I'm sure you will still have a personal interest in how things are going regardless.
Best wishes........MAGPIE:) |

We're going to put together a list. It's more than you think. Heck, it's more than we think. Gunna be a long list. I'll update the first post with a list of everything we do.
And thanks. It's good a lot of people are interested in helping. It takes a group. We've lost some folks over the years and that makes it harder.
Will you finally reveal the mystery entity behind the massive sieve effort?
Not sure if we ever said it in the forums, but it's been discussed on Discord. Charity Engine.

Michael I for one will miss you ALOT!!
You have always been quick to help and with a guiding hand when I have misconceptions about things, I would not be where I am here at Prime Grid, and other Projects as well, without you!! Your help on the Multi-Threading setup was incredible.
I feel the same way about you too Jim although your help to me was more in the way of walking me thru things that I had no idea how to do!! Because of you I have Badges I would never have figured out on my own!!
As others have already said and I will say again you will both be missed!!
Thank You!!!

Thanks for all your efforts over those years, Mike and Jim. A full list of all the new stuff and improvements that you implemented would well be as long as that list of things to be done to keep the project running. You took over a well-run project, you kept it this way all the time and you now leave behind a well-run project, the best starting point possible for the future admins.

I don't think it was ever planned, just considered. With all the administrative change ups going on, I'd say it'll be at least a month before we can even consider it again. I also believe the app still needs to be modified to support double checking. Until this is done, there is 0 chance of it getting moved to Boinc. |

After running PrimeGrid for about 8 years, Jim and I have decided it's time to step down and get some new
When I read this at the beginning of the month, my heart felt heavy for a while. Michael and Jim have been mainstays here, helping everyone out, with super beginner questions, to some of the questions that they even had to research. They made a lot of friends, and a few enemies (hopefully none stayed that way long). They answered my questions from some of the more foolish ones that I should have looked up myself, to some fairly interesting ones.
I then took some time to review, and remembered that time changes everything. Before the Internet explosion, I helped run a BBS for about 10 years. My longest two other jobs were 11.5 and 10 years. So, I know why the changes are needed and I cannot argue with it.
As for being better, my answer is it will be different. The ambiance will never be the same. The project may excel in ways people have never even thought of, yet. We never know what will be brought to the table.
As for Jim and Michael. My hat is off to you two for doing this for so long. Both of you enjoy the newly found time you should get and spend more of it with your family and friends. Take that well needed trip to somewhere you always dreamt of.
PrimeGrid will go on.

The coding for the new WW app (replacing the WWWW app with a name change since we're only doing Wieferich and Wall-Sun-Sun) is just about ready for testing. It is my hope that the new leadership will not only get WW into production, but also Proth20 and the new double check process.
Jim and I are almost gone at this point. Most tasks that need to be done right now, rather than doing them ourselves, we're teaching others how to do it instead.

The Contact Us page has been updated to show the new administrators coming in and their roles. Mike and Jim have been hard at work the past two weeks teaching us everything we need to know. At this point, between the five new admins and previous admins taking a larger role, things at PrimeGrid should continue to run smoothly. Both Mike and Jim now have the Honorary Cruncher title beneath their names for their many years of contribution towards PrimeGrid.
Thank you once again for your dedication to PrimeGrid! |

I hope I haven't waited too long to post here as I wanted to say these things while both Mike and Jim are still lurking behind the scenes.
I cannot express in words how grateful I am to both Mike and Jim for their work and dedication to PrimeGrid. It has been my distinct pleasure to serve with them on the administration team at PG for a number of years. They have been the heart and soul of this project during that time (no offense to Rytis or other admins who have served over this period), and I cannot imagine what PG would have been like without their guidance and hard work.
Jim has been an especially behind the scenes admin. He has been more active on the forum and in our Discord chat over the last couple of years, but most of you are truly unaware of the things he has done that you never noticed. It has been very common for Jim to run the verification DC work on large primes on his own machines. He frequently has "sped up" the completion of challenges by doing the same with work that was struggling to complete in a timely fashion. And I know the new administration team is profoundly appreciative of the automated programming elements that he has added to the PG servers, even over the last couple of weeks.
Mike, of course, has been a very public face of PG as an admin. There is no one who has done more to help new users, novice prime hunters, and more skilled crunchers with their problems over the years. He has the rather ironic "Shut-UP!" badge for his record numbers of forum posts--the irony of course being that almost no one would really wish him to do so. He also has done a great deal to enhance the user experience when crunching at PG, the latest large example being those lovely "first" rates on each user's account page.
I must also admit to being baffled by the waking hours kept by both Jim and Mike. I might be up at 5am to get my kids going for the morning school bus or up late at midnight or 1am grading my university students' papers...Jim and Mike always seemed to be online! I don't know how they have done it, although my theory is that Jim is actually at least part machine and Mike has that bird that must keep him up...or wait, I think it is a parrot, so it can speak...and maybe type...hmm? :)
For my own part, I can truly say that I have only rarely had the opportunity to work with individuals as skilled, polite, and respectful as either Mike or Jim. And that is especially impressive given that all of our interactions have been online in the forum, private message, or chat room. I regret that we have never had the opportunity to meet in person. You have both been wonderful colleagues here, and for me at least, I consider you both in some way to be friends. You will quite obviously be missed by all who crunch here at PG. And I will miss our conversations...
Best of luck to you both on your next adventure (I somehow find it difficult to believe that either of you will ever be idling your time away)!

A belated thank you from me as well. PrimeGrid has set the bar for well-administered and well-run projects. Your guidance and leadership will be hard to replicate. |

Although I have often had complicated relationships with Jim and Michael, I take my hat off to them for the incredible work accomplished on this project.
We have continued to see the addition of full of features still relevant on the platform and the project has always been at the forefront in terms of information to its volunteers, which is not the case on all BOINC projects.
I imagine the work that has also been done behind the scenes. It is certainly like an iceberg and we only see the tip.
So thank you gentlemen for your involvement.
The whole CRUNCHERS SANS FRONTIERES team joins me in wishing you good luck on your new adventures :)

Wow - I haven't been around much this year as other things have been under foot but I too will be sad to see Jim and Michael go.
