Not just in this project but others, what makes a particular work unit high priority over others?

Doesn't seem to relate to due date, is it because the project is telling the client that it wants that WU to finish it, since it already recieved it?

No, it is related to the deadline.

If the BOINC client thinks that the WU will not be finished 24 hours before the reporting deadline, this WU is given high priority.

That that is how it should be - but in practice, I have noticed other things to be true. For example, at this very second I am looking at a work unit from Seti on my computer. The seti unit has a due date of 1/21. While, a primegrid unit has a due date back of the 25th. However, the primegrid unit is being given high priority.

Seems to me if there are any back-end settings to enable for quick turnaround, they seem to be on primegrid. The super-short 7 day return time, and maybe more?

Shrugs, just saying I'm seeing the priority stuck on high on prime grid where it "shouldn't" be.

Regardless, I am just finishing up a handful of seti units - I think 5 more to go until I'm all the way done. I'm running 100% on prime grid, so low/high priority I couldn't care less :)

That might be what the setting is, I have to agree with this, I have seen WU's 3 or 4 days out on machines that run all the time that have high priority, the machine that I am on now is running wus that are for 01-19-2008 as high priority, this machine is on 24x7 running BOINC, with PG as a 300% share, when there are other WUs from other projects that are due today that are not running yet.

It also depends on the following factors:

Amount of time your computer is on and BOINC is allowed to run.
Result Duration Correction factor number vs the estimated time to completion of the task.
Average CPU efficiency.

I also think the amount of short term debt (saying when this project is otherwise allowed to run the task among the other projects you're attached to) matters.

And last but not least, the overall amount of work you have in queue, with the estimated run times of the various tasks.

if you get one of those Prime Sierpinski Problem LLR's, while you only allow BOINC to run for 8 hours a day and have a couple of other projects with work in queue due as well, BOINC will try to finish everything within the deadline and have it reported in the last 24 hours before the deadline is up.

I think it must kind of divide up between the projects. For instance, I had a lot of PG WU's, so it thought it would likely not finish or something. But, SETI I just had a couple of WU's left to run. So, I would guess the calculation is based upon each project, not as an overlook look at the projects as a whole.
