I've read numerous threads on here regarding all of the issues/concerns about PRPNet credit, as well as how it transfers to PSA credit. But, I just have a question regarding PRPNet credit specifically, and I apologize if this isn't the correct place for this, hopefully someone could point me in the correct direction then.

I am more curious about the differences in credit between the different ports. I know they were always slightly different and some ports seemed to give a little more "bang for the buck" but most recently I've noticed some extreme discrepancies.

I currently run 3 machines and between them 16 roughly equal cores. (12 are in fact indentical as they are same build machines) Recently I ran several days on the 27 port, and seemed very happy with the results. Running 24/7 with my cores I was able to produce around 900,000 PRPNet credit per day.
Well since then this week, for the last 3 days or so I have moved over to the FPS port, where it seems I'm averaging out to around 90,000 PRPNet credit per day. A factor of 10 difference just seems a bit extreme.

Not sure what is right or wrong, but I'm just more curious how/why the discrepancy.

The FPS WUs seem to take much much longer to crunch than the 27 WUs, yet yield significantly less credit. Looking at the size of the numbers being tested, it appears (i may be mistaken) that the FPS numbers are significantly larger right now too, which helps explain the increased processing time.

Thank you in advance for any explanation. I'm always curious and like to understand how it all works. I'm here more to just contribute to all of the projects than to collect credits, but they are a nice reward on the side. :-)

You can't compare scores across some of the PRPNet projects. The score is only intended to rank individuals/teams within a project. The score is derived from the decimal length of the number that is tested. It does not take into account the type of number being tested or the FFT used. FPS and PRS use a generic FFT, which is much slower than the FFT used by PPS, SG, and GCW. GFN (via genefer) uses a different algorithm, thus can't be compared directly to the FFT used by LLR, pfgw, or phrot.

While I understand all of that, and see how its good way to compare results within a project/port, i guess my concern then does go back to an assumption I had, which relates closely to several other peoples concerns in regard to PRPNet credit conversion to PSA credit.

I guess from what I've read, and witnessed first hand, I've always seen its roughly 18:1 conversion rate. So based on the assumption of a fairly constant conversion rate, I felt it is valid to compare how credit is given between projects.

Or is my assumption on a constant conversion mistaken as well?

I guess using the example from my first post, in the end, does a full days worth of effort on the 27 port, equate in PSA credit closely to a full days worth of effort on the FPS port?

That's a good question because I've been told that the ppselow port moves credit over to psa at a 20:1 ratio not the 18:1. I'd always assumed that the credit was moved based on total accumulated but now I'm also wondering if psa credit is moved at ratios based on ports worked.

I have never understood the conversion as 105,264,010 overall(ancient, active, overall) translates to 4,593,953 for me at least.

ports points tests PRPs primes
active- 86,652,742 885,923 0 338
ancient- 18,611,268 494,678 0 324
overall- 105,264,010 1,380,601 0 662

Close enough I guess :)

PSA credit is not real time. Your PRPNet points include credit that has not been converted and applied yet.

Today my PSA credits rise from 4500 to around 6650. But that is far below current PRPNet credits. I know what is ratio of conversion, I know that conversion is not in real time, but in free time that admins have. But in my case they user (very) old statistics :)

I will wait, my badge is smiling on me :))

As far as I know (for what I've seen in the last updates), PRPNet credits are not credited on Boinc all at once. You'll see the missing credits being added to PSA on bunches for a few days (the daily amount will depend on your RAC, if I'm not mistaken).

By the way, you'll reach your bronze badge when you get 20.000 PSA credits.

I know that I need 4.000.000 PRPNet credits, so they are converted to 200.000 PSA credits. That is OK.
But today I have nearly 3.100.000 PRPNet credits so when they are converted to PSA it will be something like 155000, not 6650 like it is now :)
All I was saying that admins use old scores for converting, not new ones.

Credit is granted based on current numbers. Yesterday, PRPNet scroes up to 17 November were converted to credit and granted. AND as Usucapio Libertatis points out, credit is distributed daily based off your RAC until all credit has been awarded.

PRPNet scores are being converted at least twice a month now but can range from every week to once every six weeks.

You give me around 1800 PSA credits

As John already told you, the credit you had yesterday on PRPNet will be awarded to you as PSA credit in small portions, distributed for the next days (you will get more credit tomorrow, some more on the day after and so on), until it matches what you had yesterday on PRPNet.

Be patient...

Thanks for explaining that; I have run numerous FPS w/u's and they take FOREVER in comparison to other search projects. Good question Mark! Thanks Rogue for the answer.
