BOINC I been with for years, however, I am still very much at Newb Stage at PG having only got to PG in the last few weeks due to one of the recent Challenges, even more so 5oB & PSA, my involvement at present in the latter being the first. Lead me by the nose :)

On the face of it this is minor stuff, hardly worth losing sleep over, but its bugging me, it could be the tip of a bigger iceberg, and I dont know how to nail it. Short shaggy dog story ....

5oB Stats. My Total in 5oB Stats agrees with PRPNet-Port-Search Stats , so far so good. Look closer at the later stats, there is an entry for SGS of two WUs today. Thats the basis of my query, where did they come from? See SGS Stats, for sure they are there - but why, I have no knowledge of doing any PRPNet work for SGS. My only involvement has been to pitch in and help out 5oB after the reecent appeal for help from John.

I have 12 cores running on 5oB, I triple checked them all this morning, all run with the indicators:

.... getting work from serve pgllr.miine.nu at port 13000
...... Hi Welcome to PrimeGrid prpserver 5oB DC server

Therefore I deduce at present I am in the right place, properly configured. I have been watching the 12 Cores going through the stats page at 5oB, all seems fine, all accounted for.

So where did the 2xSGS come from this morning, and why? It would seem to be an error somewhere. On the face of it, not the biggest error on the Planet, but logic dictates if I am getting an error so are others, which means potential for wider stats grief for others if its the tip of an Iceberg and gets left unanswered.

Anyone help me unravel this? I dont yet know my way round PG & PRPNet to get to the bottom of it - ie where did those 2 SGS ones come from and why?

Regards
Zy

I know either last night or the night before my computer couldn't access the 5OB port, so it just sat there and kept checking it for more work. Yours may have done the same, but in your .ini file, you may have it set so that it will grab some SGS units if other work units can't be found. That is my best guess.

*Reaches for the Cigar Box* .....

You might have hit it first time. Looked in the master config file being used for the 5oB check Sessions, inside it is the following:

// The following servers are from PrimeGrid. To make a server active,
// you must remove the "//". For more information about proper settings
// please see the readme_primegrid.txt in this directory.
// For descriptions of each project, please see this thread:
// http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=1215&nowrap=true#13329
server=SGS:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12000

(I've not listed the others, the SGS is the first one) I take that means if no 5oB work it will default to SGS for work to do? If so fair enough mystery solved.

Regards
Zy

From my experience with prpnet that's what happens. It's always best to have 2 - 3 ports selected in the event 1 or more goes down for whatever reason. That way it will not sit idle the whole time if you can't manually adjust.

Also, when it has to go to another port if you have the percent set to 0, it will only get 1 task at a time on the "spare" ports so it can go back and check the main port selected.

Confirming, there was an apparent access glitch on the 5oB server yesterday, and I also got an SGS as "fallback". They are very short so not really an issue.
