Hi all,

I am only new to the world of PrimeGrid, but been a SETI cruncher for years... with a long break in the middle.

Just have one really silly question to ask.... if it ever turns out that I am lucky enough to find a really big prime that makes it onto the top 5000 list for instance, can I;

a) "name" it after someone (my lovey wife, "Sam's Prime") or;
b) give someone else's name as the discoverer?

She is far more deserving of a bit of history than I am... even if it is only obscure math histroy...

Thanks...

I don't think so. During a recent challenge, I ended up being one of the prime-finders, which made it on to the list (for my first time). They just used my name & the application name in the list; they didn't give me a chance to rename myself. Keep in mind that this list is viewed globally.

I could be wrong, since this has only happened to me once. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can clarify.

Welcome to the family!

Having been lucky to find a couple big primes (12 and 14 at the time)... No you do not get to name them. The project and software get recognition (they are the ones doing all the real work) As the finder your name does end up as one of the 5-6 names on it though.
If you set it up the PG does noy submit your finds then you set up the prover code (the names on it) so you could put in a different name if you wanted.

Hoping to add to g414 soon!!
