With so many projects at PrimeGrid, many people wonder which ones to participate in. Our answer is "whichever ones that interest you." Give them all a shot to see which ones you like. For a short overview of each project, please see the bottom of this post. For those users who are interested in putting their machines towards higher priority areas, please consider the following:

Top Sieve Priorities
Top LLR Priorities

Project Overviews

In general, 64 bit OS machines contribute much more efficiently with the sieves. Therefore, when deciding where to put your machines, consider 32 bit for LLR and 64 bit for Sieve.

Before reading John's post, I was about to direct my efforts into GCW Sieving in preparation for the next challenge (Woodall LLR).

Since all I have is a 32-bit machine, it's just as well I read this.

Nevertheless, it seems we have one massive amount of sieving to do, so I'll try some of the high priority work.

Thanks to John and the team for all the work they're putting into these projects.

There are very few holes and they are filled quickly. So, we will continue through 10P. This goal is just an aniversary goal.

How fast is the PPS sieve file shrinking? Will PPS sieve, at some day, be available though BOINC?

Not very fast. :)

PPS sieve (64 bit only) is available through BOINC already. Please see this post.

I don't think it can shrink to an acceptable size for boinc. :{

ABCD or .dat format files can be about 1/3 smaller when written using UNIX end-of-line conventions. I think the Windows sr2sieve and gcwsieve executables will read UNIX format files correctly.

A workunit I've downloaded is in the 10.10P range, so all the <10P's are clearly out, but probably not returned yet. By the way, what's the deal with the oldest unfinished WU? 15 failed download attempts in July...

I have reported a similar problem before.
It's http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=1043
go and post here.I think the mods will work on that soon.

Thanks for the heads up. It's fixed.

Also, as y'all have noticed, we have entered the 10+P range. We'll post this accomplishment soon after all the Challenge announcements have been made. :)

I'm not certain that I understand your issue. Did you delete a line that started with server= from the prpclient.ini file? If so, then that could explain the problem. If you look at the server= line:

server=a:100:4:localhost:7101

the second value represents the percentage of work to do for that server. Set it to 0 means that the client will only get work from that server if other servers are not available. You need to have at least one line like this in the ini file. The sum of percentages must equal 100. If you have one server= line, then the value must be 100. If the sum is not 100, then the client will not run. I presume this is the issue you are having.

"Manual Sieves
12121 Prime Search (Sieve)
Primorial Prime Search (Sieve)"

I've been working on the Primorial Prime Search and I was curious what is the difference between the normal "PRPNet Projects (All LLR)" and the Manual Primorial one that I've been working on? Any or all information about this would be greatly appreciated as I want to help as much as possible :)

Edit: Lastly I have a question about how credit is calculated towards specifically the Primorial Prime Search and once credit is given how a client knows for how many tasks I.E. in this case "Total Score" or "Tests Performed", he was given it for so he or she knows when to look forward to another credit bump. I only ask because I am well, curious and getting very close to silver on the badge PSA, but forgetting that new addition, I still would love to know the calculation process for this specifically. Sorry if I got too technical but I know a lot of people on here that for even my 9 years of I.T. work they still are above my head on some topics lol so forgive me if it sounds noobish to ask. :) Much appreciated for any answers given by Mod's or anyone else for that matter.

If you look at the server= line:
server=a:100:4:localhost:7101
the second value represents the percentage of work to do for that server. Set it to 0 means that the client will only get work from that server if other servers are not available. You need to have at least one line like this in the ini file. The sum of percentages must equal 100. If you have one server= line, then the value must be 100. If the sum is not 100, then the client will not run. I presume this is the issue you are having.

Yes senks

I'm still curious about the questions in the post above on the 17th of Sept. If anyone gets the time or knows the answers to them that would be great :)

If I got the question right...

Manual sieves effort like Primorial, Factorial and 12121 are to eliminate candidates before they enter LLR testing.
PRPNet LLR (and other) tests are done to see if a candidate is prime or not.

Now that only if I got the answer right :-)

If a prime is found or a GFN Divisor then would I get an email telling me the prime and or if it gets on the top 5000 list for Manual Primorial LLR'ing on PRPNet?
