We lived for several months in a refugee camp near Vienna Austria. As my Dad had a masters in Mechanical Engineering, he got a job offer (a sponsor) relatively quickly.|

I have a PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. I am also a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.).
I spent 4 weeks interpreting for the centennial Olympic Games; I still speak (and read and write) Magyar.

A su paso, Jesús vio a un hombre que era ciego de nacimiento. Y sus discípulos le preguntaron: —Rabí, para que este hombre haya nacido ciego, ¿quién pecó, él o sus padres? —Ni él pecó, ni sus padres —respondió Jesús—, sino que esto sucedió para que la obra de Dios se hiciera evidente en su vida. Mientras esté yo en el mundo, luz soy del mundo. Dicho esto, escupió en el suelo, hizo barro con la saliva y se lo untó en los ojos al ciego, diciéndole: —Ve y lávate en el estanque de Siloé (que significa: Enviado). El ciego fue y se lavó, y al volver ya veía. Sus vecinos y los que lo habían visto pedir limosna decían: «¿No es éste el que se sienta a mendigar?» Unos aseguraban: «Sí, es él.» Otros decían: «No es él, sino que se le parece.» Pero él insistía: «Soy yo.» —¿Cómo entonces se te han abierto los ojos? —le preguntaron. —Ese hombre que se llama Jesús hizo un poco de barro, me lo untó en los ojos y me dijo: "Ve y lávate en Siloé." Así que fui, me lavé, y entonces pude ver. —¿Y dónde está ese hombre? —le preguntaron. —No lo sé —respondió. ... ... interrogaron de nuevo al ciego: —¿Y qué opinas tú de él? Pero los judíos no creían que el hombre hubiera sido ciego y que ahora viera, y hasta llamaron a sus padres y les preguntaron: —¿Es éste su hijo, el que dicen ustedes que nació ciego? ¿Cómo es que ahora puede ver? —Sabemos que éste es nuestro hijo —contestaron los padres—, y sabemos también que nació ciego. Lo que no sabemos es cómo ahora puede ver, ni quién le abrió los ojos. Pregúntenselo a él.
Jesús resucita a Lázaro
Había un hombre enfermo llamado Lázaro, que era de Betania, el pueblo de María y Marta, sus hermanas. María era la misma que ungió con perfume al Señor, y le secó los pies con sus cabellos. Las dos hermanas mandaron a decirle a Jesús: «Señor, tu amigo querido está enfermo.» Cuando Jesús oyó esto, dijo: «Esta enfermedad no terminará en muerte, sino que es para la gloria de Dios, para que por ella el Hijo de Dios sea glorificado.» Jesús amaba a Marta, a su hermana y a Lázaro. A pesar de eso, cuando oyó que Lázaro estaba enfermo, se quedó dos días más donde se encontraba. Después dijo a sus discípulos: —Volvamos a Judea. —Rabí —objetaron ellos—, hace muy poco los judíos intentaron apedrearte, ¿y todavía quieres volver allá? —¿Acaso el día no tiene doce horas? —respondió Jesús—. El que anda de día no tropieza, porque tiene la luz de este mundo. Pero el que anda de noche sí tropieza, porque no tiene luz. Dicho esto, añadió: —Nuestro amigo Lázaro duerme, pero voy a despertarlo. —Señor —respondieron sus discípulos—, si duerme, es que va a recuperarse. Jesús les hablaba de la muerte de Lázaro, pero sus discípulos pensaron que se refería al sueño natural. Por eso les dijo claramente: —Lázaro ha muerto, y por causa de ustedes me alegro de no haber estado allí, para que crean. Pero vamos a verlo.
Jesús consuela a las hermanas de Lázaro
A su llegada, Jesús se encontró con que Lázaro llevaba ya cuatro días en el sepulcro. Betania estaba cerca de Jerusalén, como a tres kilómetros de distancia, y muchos judíos habían ido a casa de Marta y de María, a darles el pésame por la muerte de su hermano. Cuando Marta supo que Jesús llegaba, fue a su encuentro; pero María se quedó en la casa. —Señor —le dijo Marta a Jesús—, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no habría muerto. Pero yo sé que aun ahora Dios te dará todo lo que le pidas. —Tu hermano resucitará —le dijo Jesús. —Yo sé que resucitará en la resurrección, en el día final —respondió Marta. Entonces Jesús le dijo: —Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en mí vivirá, aunque muera; y todo el que vive y cree en mí no morirá jamás. ¿Crees esto? —Sí, Señor; yo creo que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, el que había de venir al mundo. Dicho esto, Marta regresó a la casa y, llamando a su hermana María, le dijo en privado: —El Maestro está aquí y te llama. Cuando María oyó esto, se levantó rápidamente y fue a su encuentro. Cuando María llegó adonde estaba Jesús y lo vio, se arrojó a sus pies y le dijo: —Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no habría muerto. Al ver llorar a María y a los judíos que la habían acompañado, Jesús se turbó y se conmovió profundamente. —¿Dónde lo han puesto? —preguntó. —Ven a verlo, Señor —le respondieron. Jesús lloró. —¡Miren cuánto lo quería! —dijeron los judíos. Pero algunos de ellos comentaban: —Éste, que le abrió los ojos al ciego, ¿no podría haber impedido que Lázaro muriera?
Conmovido una vez más, Jesús se acercó al sepulcro. Era una cueva cuya entrada estaba tapada con una piedra. —Quiten la piedra —ordenó Jesús. Marta, la hermana del difunto, objetó: —Señor, ya debe oler mal, pues lleva cuatro días allí. —¿No te dije que si crees verás la gloria de Dios? —le contestó Jesús. Entonces quitaron la piedra. Jesús, alzando la vista, dijo: —Padre, te doy gracias porque me has escuchado. Ya sabía yo que siempre me escuchas, pero lo dije por la gente que está aquí presente, para que crean que tú me enviaste. Dicho esto, gritó con todas sus fuerzas: —¡Lázaro, sal fuera! El muerto salió, con vendas en las manos y en los pies, y el rostro cubierto con un sudario. —Quítenle las vendas y dejen que se vaya —les dijo Jesús.
Cuando Jesús regresó, la multitud se alegró de verlo, pues todos estaban esperándolo. En esto llegó un hombre llamado Jairo, que era un jefe de la sinagoga. Arrojándose a los pies de Jesús, le suplicaba que fuera a su casa, porque su única hija, de unos doce años, se estaba muriendo. Jesús se puso en camino y las multitudes lo apretujaban. Había entre la gente una mujer que hacía doce años padecía de hemorragias, sin que nadie pudiera sanarla. Ella se le acercó por detrás y le tocó el borde del manto, y al instante cesó su hemorragia. —¿Quién me ha tocado? —preguntó Jesús. Como todos negaban haberlo tocado, Pedro le dijo: —Maestro, son multitudes las que te aprietan y te oprimen. —No, alguien me ha tocado —replicó Jesús—; yo sé que de mí ha salido poder. La mujer, al ver que no podía pasar inadvertida, se acercó temblando y se arrojó a sus pies. En presencia de toda la gente, contó por qué lo había tocado y cómo había sido sanada al instante. —Hija, tu fe te ha sanado —le dijo Jesús—. Vete en paz. Todavía estaba hablando Jesús, cuando alguien llegó de la casa de Jairo, jefe de la sinagoga, para decirle: —Tu hija ha muerto. No molestes más al Maestro. Al oír esto, Jesús le dijo a Jairo: —No tengas miedo; cree nada más, y ella será sanada. Her judges are wolves of the night that have had no bones to gnaw by morning.
The hand of the LORD came upon me, and he led me out in the spirit of the LORD and set me in the center of the plain, which was now filled with bones. He made me walk among them in every direction so that I saw how many they were on the surface of the plain. How dry they were!
He asked me: Son of man, can these bones come to life? "Lord GOD," I answered, "you alone know that." Then he said to me: Prophesy over these bones, and say to them: Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!
Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: See! I will bring spirit into you, that you may come to life. I will put sinews upon you, make flesh grow over you, cover you with skin, and put spirit in you so that you may come to life and know that I am the LORD.
I prophesied as I had been told, and even as I was prophesying I heard a noise; it was a rattling as the bones came together, bone joining bone. I saw the sinews and the flesh come upon them, and the skin cover them, but there was no spirit in them.
Then He said to me: Prophesy to the Spirit, prophesy, son of man, and say to the Spirit: Thus says the Lord GOD: From the four winds come, O spirit, and breathe into these slain that they may come to life.
I prophesied as he told me, and the spirit came into them; they came alive and stood upright, a vast army.
Thus says the Lord GOD: O my people, I will open your graves and have you rise from them, and bring you back to the land of Israel.
Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and have you rise from them, O my people!
I will put my spirit in you that you may live, and I will settle you upon your land; thus you shall know that I am the LORD. I have promised, and I will do it, says the LORD.
The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
Upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom
a light has shone.
For the yoke that burdened them,
the pole on their shoulder,
And the rod of their taskmaster
you have smashed, as on the day of Midian.
For a child is born to us, a son is given us;
upon his shoulder dominion rests.
They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero,
Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.
His dominion is vast
and forever peaceful,
From David\'s throne, and over his kingdom,
which he confirms and sustains
By judgment and justice,
both now and forever.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this!
Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.
During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted her relative Elizabeth, of the house of Aaron.
When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said,
"Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. "
And Mary said:
"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For He has looked upon His handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.
The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him.
The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty.

Joseph went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock.
The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear.
The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.
And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger."
And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:
"Glory to God in the highest
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."
When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us."
So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.
When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child.
All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds.
And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.
Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them.
When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord," .
Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the holy Spirit was upon him.
It had been revealed to him by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord.
He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him,
he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:
"Now, Master, you may let your servant go
in peace, according to your word,
for my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you prepared in sight of all the peoples,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and glory for your people Israel."
And Jesus came down with them. A great crowd of his disciples and a large number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and even those who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured.
And raising his eyes toward his disciples he said:
"Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours.
Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh.
Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you,
and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man.
Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward
will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the
prophets in the same way.
But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and weep.
Woe to you when all speak well of you,
for their ancestors treated the false
prophets in this way.
"But to you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic.
Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back.
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.
And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.
But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
Be merciful, just as (also) your Father is merciful.
Jesus Questioned by Pilate.
Now Jesus stood before the governor, and he questioned him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" Jesus said, "You say so." And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he made no answer. Then Pilate said to him, "Do you not hear how many things they are testifying against you?" But he did not answer him one word, so that the governor was greatly amazed.
Now on the occasion of the feast the governor was accustomed to release to the crowd one prisoner whom they wished. And at that time they had a notorious prisoner called (Jesus) Barabbas. So when they had assembled, Pilate said to them, "Which one do you want me to release to you, (Jesus) Barabbas, or Jesus called Messiah?" For he knew that it was out of envy that they had handed him over.
While he was still seated on the bench, his wife sent him a message, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man. I suffered much in a dream today because of him." The chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas but to destroy Jesus. The governor said to them in reply, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" They answered, "Barabbas!" Pilate said to them, "Then what shall I do with Jesus called Messiah?" They all said, "Let him be crucified!" But he said, "Why? What evil has he done?" They only shouted the louder, "Let him be crucified!"
When Pilate saw that he was not succeeding at all, but that a riot was breaking out instead, he took water and washed his hands in the sight of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this man's blood. Look to it yourselves." And the whole people said in reply, "His blood be upon us and upon our children." Then he released Barabbas to them, but after he had Jesus scourged, he handed him over to be crucified.
And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of the Skull), they gave Jesus wine to drink mixed with gall. But when he had tasted it, he refused to drink. After they had crucified him, they divided his garments by casting lots; then they sat down and kept watch over him there.
And they placed over his head the written charge against him: This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.
Two revolutionaries were crucified with him, one on his right and the other on his left. Those passing by reviled him, shaking their heads and saying, "You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself, if you are the Son of God, (and) come down from the cross!"
From noon onward, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And about three o'clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Some of the bystanders who heard it said, "This one is calling for Elijah." Immediately one of them ran to get a sponge; he soaked it in wine, and putting it on a reed, gave it to him to drink. But the rest said, "Wait, let us see if Elijah comes to save him." But Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, and gave up his spirit.
And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked, rocks were split, tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised. And coming forth from their tombs after his resurrection, they entered the holy city and appeared to many.
The centurion and the men with him who were keeping watch over Jesus feared greatly when they saw the earthquake and all that was happening, and they said, "Truly, this was the Son of God!" There were many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him. Among them were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph, who was himself a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be handed over. Taking the body, Joseph wrapped it (in) clean linen and laid it in his new tomb that he had hewn in the rock. Then he rolled a huge stone across the entrance to the tomb and departed. But Mary Magdalene and the other Mary remained sitting there, facing the tomb.
The next day, the one following the day of preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate and said, "Sir, we remember that this impostor while still alive said, 'After three days I will be raised up.' Give orders, then, that the grave be secured until the third day, lest his disciples come and steal him and say to the people, 'He has been raised from the dead.' This last imposture would be worse than the first." Pilate said to them, "The guard is yours; go secure it as best you can." So they went and secured the tomb by fixing a seal to the stone and setting the guard.
After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow. The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men.
Then the angel said to the women in reply, "Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him.' Behold, I have told you."
Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce this to his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me."
While they were going, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had happened. They assembled with the elders and took counsel; then they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came by night and stole him while we were asleep.' And if this gets to the ears of the governor, we will satisfy (him) and keep you out of trouble." The soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has circulated among the Jews to the present (day).
The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age."
