Singularity is Back!

I hadn't thought it would be so long before I would rejoin. There were quite some important things happening during the time period I was offline.

I am now a first-year college student and am currently in a BS-MS Dual Degree Course. Pure Science is fun!

Anyways, good to be back :)

And yeah, a very Happy Diwali to you all!

Okay, so, I was reading this Article, which is about how would we keep warning messages about radioactive sites for future humans.

The problem is that say about 10000 years later, the languages would have changed completely. So, any instruction to keep away from radioactive waste sites in our current language would be useless.

There were some proposed solutions, which included keeping some fancy colored signs, or either conceal the sites completely, or change instructions according to new languages every few hundred years, etc.

One solution was to create some kind of myth, some legend that going near this site would cause you harm. Then fill this in the minds of people, so future people might at least believe in superstition and don't go near the radioactive waste site!

Now this is where I got a strange and disturbing thought: Is it possible that the past people have used this method on us? Did they make legends purposely? I have been trying to think about this for a while now.

Any views?

"I don't do a lot of public speaking, so I looked up a memorable quote to start my speech, and this is what I found. OK, you're staring at me blankly, but this whole thing is a quote. I know that sounds confusing, but... You know what, never mind!"

"Sure it matters who's got the biggest stick, but it matters a heluva lot more who's swinging it"

-General Shepherd (in Call of Duty Modern Warfare Series)

[The background is that General Shepherd, in the game, had to attack a rebel-held city, and the opposition was tough. Sticks here refer to Armory, but you could extend it to refer to skills]

I wonder if that is derived from Teddy Roosevelt's "Speak softly. And carry a big stick."

I can't say I followed that all my life as a lawyer but I like the idea.

I don't really know how they formed the quote. But I guess the game makers were inspired by Teddy Roosevelt. That's a possibility.

(Sorry to see John - TheDawgz - disappear. He even left the team.)

I have been wondering about the same thing for a few weeks now. Did I miss his last message? Why did he have to leave?
