11) Message boards : Number crunching : Space Family team's credit history (Message 9683)
Posted 5365 days ago by Pepo
Lunar Landing Challenge is on its full thrust, everybody's observing it... so let's read also something different for a moment ;-)

Sometimes around mid February 2008, a new Czech team Space Family was founded, joining previous Czech Boinc Team members and few others. There was just one problem: Space Family did not start from beginning (0 C$T of team credit), they started (officially) with Czech Boinc Team's credit by renaming their teams to Space Family. Should be no problems, as CBT was actually supposed to be "their team".

But there was a problem. Not all credit, which belonged to CBT, has been crunched by CBT members and not all credit, contained in SF (up to 34,119,853 C$T on 9 Jul 2008), has been crunched by both CBT and SF members. Overall BOINC-wide. Who is interested, can take a look at this BOINC dev thread and few other projects' threads, linked from there.

How does it concern PrimeGrid project? To get some nice startup portfolio, you have to take a look for some fat, rich and dead (or at least apparently inactive long enough) team, ask for its foundership and kick off all previous members. It happened something like this on most other projects too.

Team with ID=35 seemed to be unused, so it was chosen to be renamed to Space Family. From Detailed statistics for team "Space Family":

As can be seen on the BoincSynergy's Team member Movements for Space Family in PrimeGrid page with past team ID=35's members, first ever SF member to come was Barbar on 22 Dec 2007 from CBT (long after the team have built its whole credit, mostly by PoorBoy (started there on 30 Nov 2005 with 202,112 C$T and left the team on 09 Aug 2006 with 943,287 C$T)). On the very same day, 22 Dec 2007, the remaining two former "Team AlienWare" members Heffed and bmanruler were kicked off their team. The team now has the name "Space Family".

In sync with the mentioned date 22 Dec 2007, BOINC-wide team "Team Alienware" has lost nearly 1,000,000 C$T of its credit in December 2007. From BOINC combined stats for Team AlienWare:

A look at the WayBackMachine Internet Archive: I've tried to find some statistics export files, but did not really find anything useful there. But there were few historical snapshots of the team with ID=35, which was called "Team AlienWare" back then, and of user accounts of Team AlienWare's members Heffed, PoorBoy and bmanruler.

Using following queries:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.primegrid.com/orig/team_display.php?teamid=35

13.2.2007: Team AlienWare Members=2 Total credit=942,624.67 RAC=143.23 Founder=Heffed Country=United States Active members=Heffed, bmanruler

From Detailed statistics for PrimeGrid user ID=103 "PoorBoy":

-----

As PoorBoy noted in a related Pirates' thread, after those "Team AlienWare" has been recovered: "I have taken back over Team AlienWare the once #1 Team of the Pirates Project, I had no clue somebody had Pirated the Team away from Heff whom I bestowed the Team Foundership on as I moved on to other Projects." I believe PoorBoy did handover the foundership of PrimeGrid's "Team AlienWare" to Heffed sometimes during 4 May 2006 - 13 Feb 2007, likes he did on Pirates'. As Heffed is inactive now, PoorBoy will have to confirm it himself.

I'd like to vote for renaming this team with ID=35 to it's last known name "Team AlienWare", setting its country to "United States" and making user with ID=103 back the team's founder.

From Detailed statistics for PrimeGrid user ID=103 "PoorBoy":

From BOINC combined stats for Team AlienWare:

(It remains questionable, why other 2 members also left the team on 23 Jul 2007. User aalavandhaann remained crunching teamless until 01 Nov 2007, when he entered E.T.HUNTERS. User reveler also continued to crunch teamless.)

A look at the WayBackMachine Internet Archive: I've tried to find some statistics export files: and found 3 unique team xml files available, although with no creation dates, but their creation date can be approximated to the creation date of the last team in the file (highest team ID).
I've found no users stats exports stored, possibly because of their huge size.

According to the files, team with ID=19786 was Austrian team, it's name (during at least 27-Apr-2006 - 2-Jan-2007) was "Systema Austria & members" and founder name was "Systema - Human Information Systems", again the ID=2601.

Two more queries for SETI@Home Top Teams (with offset=60 and offset=80) revealed 3 pages containing team with ID=19786, from dates:
12.3.2007: Rank=82 Name=SNG Austria & members Members=1 RAC=24,282.91 Total credit=3,543,889.27 Country=Austria
19.3.2007: Rank=76 Name=SNG Austria & members Members=1 RAC= 26,242.35 Total credit=3,732,556.06 Country=Austria
22.3.2007: Rank=76 Name=SNG Austria & members Members=1 RAC=26,306.03 Total credit=3,822,275.29 Country=Austria

Everywhere still the same Austrian user from the same Austrian team. Until the Winter 2007...

I'd like to vote for renaming this team with ID=19786 to it's last known name "SNG Austria & members", setting its country to "Austria" and making user with ID=2601 back the team's founder.

How about making different times for challenge? So that people can choose when to start challenge (for different timezones) in their preferences. For example, some people choose choose to start at 01:00 am UTC, some at 02:00 etc.

That's a good idea, we'll most definitely think about that for the next challenge.

It might be enough to keep the time interval for any host and let it freely slide (somehow).

...currently nothing of the mentioned problems work for me: creating venues, modifying subprojects in main/venues, unhiding my hosts in mail prefs.

I think I nailed it. Please check again.

Everything mentioned works fine now, thanks.
The challenge can begin :-)

Computers/emails is a known issue. Project selection should be working. Can you PLEASE clarify what isn't working? :)

Tried on both Safari and IE7 - currently nothing of the mentioned problems work for me: creating venues, modifying subprojects in main/venues, unhiding my hosts in mail prefs.

I did create (or at least modified for PSP only) one venue just 3 days ago (Sunday) and (for sure) modified (added) my primes' reporting few more days ago, to all venues and primary prefs.

Now if only I could change my settings back to psp sieve instead of what there at :( well maybe that will be fixed in time

Try change now. It should work.

Does not for me. Even can not create new separate preference (for "home"). I di create the one for "work" just 3 days ago.

It's a BOINC-wide problem. It's been reported to developers, now waiting for a fix.

[edit] Hmm, I'm mixing it up with another problem. The subproject selection works fine for me, I can't reproduce the bug. Can you try once again?

It's still the same for me (hide computers + emails), but my problem was not about subprojects selection.

I just sent a PM to John before noticing this thread and yeah I'm having these same issues now too :(

Did I suddenly infect you all? ;-)
