Task checkpoints after being preempted
(Message 37117)
Posted 4302 days ago by Pepo
I've noticed that my Cullen Prime Search (LLR) 6.09 task llrCUL_91107183_2 is regularly checkpointing once more some 5 minutes after being preempted (while it has previously checkpointed exactly at the preemption moment):
16.06.2011 10:17:18 | PrimeGrid | [task] task_state=EXECUTING for llrCUL_91107183_2 from start
16.06.2011 10:17:18 | PrimeGrid | Restarting task llrCUL_91107183_2 using llrCUL version 609
16.06.2011 10:22:29 | PrimeGrid | [task] result llrCUL_91107183_2 checkpointed
....
16.06.2011 13:07:47 | PrimeGrid | [task] result llrCUL_91107183_2 checkpointed
16.06.2011 13:07:49 | PrimeGrid | [cpu_sched] Preempting llrCUL_91107183_2 (left in memory)
16.06.2011 13:07:49 | PrimeGrid | [task] task_state=SUSPENDED for llrCUL_91107183_2 from suspend

16.06.2011 13:53:13 | PrimeGrid | Resuming task llrCUL_91107183_2 using llrCUL version 609
16.06.2011 13:53:56 | PrimeGrid | [task] result llrCUL_91107183_2 checkpointed
....
16.06.2011 16:45:03 | PrimeGrid | [task] result llrCUL_91107183_2 checkpointed
16.06.2011 16:45:03 | PrimeGrid | [cpu_sched] Preempting llrCUL_91107183_2 (left in memory)
16.06.2011 16:45:03 | PrimeGrid | [task] task_state=SUSPENDED for llrCUL_91107183_2 from suspend
16.06.2011 16:51:00 | PrimeGrid | [task] result llrCUL_91107183_2 checkpointed
Is it a known and expected behavior (for some unknown reason), or some hidden error (sort of post-mortem spasms? :-)

Indeed...

A how-to is missing for the case that not the host computer time, but "the precise UTC Time in the data section to the left..." is off by as much as 4 minutes ;-)

llrWOO 5.09 crash
(Message 14535)

WinXP SP3, BOINC 6.6.11.
After nearly a day of computing, a Woodall Prime Search (LLR) task llrWOO_29393425_2 falied with Unhandled Exception (Exit status -529697949 (0xffffffffe06d7363), Reason: Out Of Memory (C++ Exception) (0xe06d7363) at address 0x7C812AEB) and left BOINC Windows Runtime Debugger output behind.
Among the wingmen, there are just a download and computing errors, one of them being also an Out Of Memory (C++ Exception) (0xe06d7363) at address 0x76A6F35F exception.
A code bug?

On Windows, most (or many) applications have their icon. It is visible i.e. on the title bar's left side. It is comparable with web site's favicon.
Could the graphics executable get it's icon too? If not a nice own miniaturized image with numbers, then be it at least the same "LLR" on green (or let it have at least a diagonal "4819" on blue?) background, as the primegrid_llr_5.10_windows_intelx86.exe and others use?

The Back to the Future Challenge
(Message 10837)

I discovered the issue, which was a preference to keep at least 1.5 GB free on disk space. I had recently copied a large file to my local disk, which put the free space available at 1.3 GB.
[...]
However, BOINC never told me why it wouldn't download work.
That's sad, but true. Fortunately 6.3.x Manager will already explicitely display the free amount of the disk, usable by BOINC (graphically as another pie in the "total disk usage" cake).
Unfortunately when this amount comes down to zero, current 6.3.x will not inform about it - the info is again skipped! (to be reported and hopefully patched)

Can you announce the days of August's challenge please???
Your asking for the next Community Challenge right? I could have sworn it was posted somewhere but I cant for the life of me remember where, If I find it I'll post a link from here unless someone beats me to it :)
Can someone beat you? Impossible! ;-)
I can see the post in the remnants of the The Dog Days of Summer Challenge thread, including the from-to dates, just that the thread "has been hidden for administrative purposes", so I'd rather hold on...

Space Family team's credit history
(Message 9832)

Barbar is back from his holiday and posted following on Space Family's Czech forum:
I'll try to translate it into English (please bear with my approach), without any further comments:
Hello to everyone, I'm back from holiday. I've just briefly run through the forums and have no time for a comprehensive response, but because my response is expected, at least briefly:
I've done the team transfers personally, just me alone and none else from Space Family is responsible for it. I've asked for team transfers prior to my joining to Space Family, in the far past and also shortly prior to joining Space Family. Respective team takeovers then could sporadically happen after the merger. Thus none from Space Family could be liable for it and except giving a glimpse to Hadra, none else ever knew about. I do not have a list of the teams taken over, but the majority of them have been here possibly mentioned.
During the respective transfer I've taken advantage of the rules, set by the system architects. I've not anticipated, that it could happen, that the email, informing about the request for team ownership transfer, would not be delivered to the founder. In such case the system is incorrectly set up and something should be done with it in general.
I've never asked for taking over any project of CNT (Czech National Team) or boinc.cz (I have nothing in common with their problem on CPDN).
I'd like to thank Merlin, Hadra, MIZ and others from our team, who sticked up for me (what does not necessarily mean, that they have to agree with me). Without them I'd leave Space Family, what I've actually done on some projects already prior to my vacation, so as the time will allow, I'll consecutively, come back. I apologize to them for the time, which was necessary for the explanations and advocacy during the time, when I was away.
I also apologize to others, who might have been somehow hurt with my behaviour. We will return the taken-over teams. But currently I've not noticed any request on any of them for team foundership transfer, so I'll have to arrange it with our team's captaincy, how to actually accomplish it.
What I partially feel bad about is that, neither on Rosetta, nor elsewhere, I've received an email from project admin, informing me about what I've been accused of, and allowed me to respond. With respect to my just basic knowledge of English language, I'm not able to follow and especially respond to forums of particular projects.
I'm asking all for patience, because BOINC is just a marginal thing for me and I can not devote much time to it. There are more important things in life.

A nice goal would be to reach p=10P by the one year anniversary. Based on the progress so far, this looks like a very realistic goal. :)
I believe a "One Year Anniversary" challenge would help to accomplish this ;-)

That was a fast reaction!

[...]
As can be seen on the BoincSynergy's Team member Movements for Space Family in PrimeGrid page with past team ID=35's members, first ever SF member to come was Barbar on 22 Dec 2007 from CBT (long after the team have built its whole credit, mostly by PoorBoy (started there on 30 Nov 2005 with 202,112 C$T and left the team on 09 Aug 2006 with 943,287 C$T)). On the very same day, 22 Dec 2007, the remaining two former "Team AlienWare" members Heffed and bmanruler were kicked off their team. The team now has the name "Space Family".
[...]
I've manually modified the BoincSynergy's link to "pg" (should mean "PrimeGrig", but hey, the correct shotrcut for (then valid) Message@Home was "mh" (and undefined "pg" possibly defaults to SETI (index 0?) :-)
This block should off course start with:
As can be seen on the BoincSynergy's Team member Movements for Space Family in PrimeGrid page with past team ID=35's members, first ever SF member to come...
Once again sorry for not being thorough enough.
