1) Message boards : General discussion : Favourite Prime Number. (Message 132476)

I would have thought my first prime find to make the T5K would be my favourite, or possibly the MEGA I found, but for a favourite prime I personally found, it has to be the relatively small yet significant;

87888968^32768+1

It has lots of 8's in it and as I understand, 8 is considered a lucky number in eastern cultures. Also, it's one of only two consecutive GFN-15 primes known to exist. (As is my understanding) https://oeis.org/A118539

Indeed. I have had 4 invalids and one inconclusive on the same computer running TRP as of May 27. It was a combination of a small heat wave where I live (A/C is out) and an aggressive overclock of my i7-8086k. A reduction from 4.8 GHz to 4.7 GHz seemed to fix my problem.

Thank you dukebg for the links, they made for interesting reading. I have come to agree that it's kind of pointless to have a special badge for these consecutive finds.

A little over a year ago when I found those two primes, Michael congratulated me for finding those "special primes" in a different thread. At the time, I was ignorant as to just how special the finds were.

:) Thanks for the vote of confidence :)

However, I found one of a pair of GFN 14s, whereas you found both GFN15's so I reckon you win! :)

There is this other interesting project to find the first GFN 16 Mega Prime, currently running. CPU only. Just started a few weeks back.

Thank you Robish! But seeing that you were 'trying' to find the GFN 14s where as my finding the GFN 15s was just insanely good blind luck, it feels more like you are the bigger winner.

You knew what you were looking for, put in the effort, cycles and kilo watts = bigger winner in my books. :)

The GFN 16 MEGA hunt looks interesting, might join the search myself.

Cheers everyone!

Not long ago, I noticed that there is a project to find consecutive GFN primes on another server and thought today I'd give it a go.

Strange thing is, as I searched the PrimeGrid forums for more info, I found this...

https://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=7921#116075

It would appear that I totally forgot that I already found consecutive GFN-15's here on PrimeGrid. At the time, the only consecutive GFN-15s found here.

(For those interested, the primes were found on two different computers, one has been retired, the other computer is still running. https://www.primegrid.com/show_host_detail.php?hostid=915292.

Have any other consecutive GFN primes been found here? If so, may I 'humbly' suggest that a new badge be created and granted to members that find these rare consecutive GFN primes, there's more out there, Robish should be able to find em!

Great fun for sure! I had hoped to find a prime during the mountain stage, (not too be) that being said, I found more primes during this years TdP than I thought I would. So, definitely not complaining. A big thanks to those behind the scenes that managed and made all this possible!

You're not alone, I have noticed the same thing happening to me while running the GFN17low during the past week. My observations are that many of these users are anonymous, have a RAC of 0.09 or less and have nothing but errors being spit out for the GFN15 16 and 17low projects.

I was wondering how a person might inform this/these user/s that they might be running badly configured computers.

Nothing but errors (not one valid) come from the anonymous owner/s of these computers running GFN15 16 and 17low,

418880
418877
418860
473181
418865

(I hope I didn't break any etiquette by listing these computers, it's just so we might be able to inform them of the possible computer trouble they might be having)

I can say it has improved for me somewhat in the past day or so, feel free to look through my results as I have my computers visible.

Unfortunately, I didn't keep detailed stats on my run times for the PPSE tasks while running GFN15, but IIRC they were impacted on average by about 15 to 25 seconds per task while running concurrently with GFN15 compared to running concurrently with GFN16. There is even a discussion somewhere in the forums in regards to this, just wish I could remember where.

Congrats on your find!

I have noticed the same thing when running GFN15 on my two GTX1080 cards and on my GTX1060, almost the same run times between the three of them. The larger the GFN task, the more efficient my GTX1080 cards run.

The smaller GFN projects will also slow down any CPU tasks you may have running. I noticed it while running GFN15 together with PPSE tasks. Running GFN16 and PPSE together had less of an impact on the PPSE completion times.

Thank you for the correction and explanations. I was just happy to have found a prime and it just so happened to be found while running the SGS project. Learning more as I go!

Neat project, I will definitely be checking out your progress from time to time.

I got hooked on finding primes myself during the TdP this past February after a long time sieving. I found a PPSE after 11 days and then decided to try for a GFN16. I found my first GFN16 just 10 or so hours later! So you may find one sooner than you think, just like with the GFN15 you just found.

Between the 12th and 17th of February I found 3 GFN16s.

I hear ya on the double bronze badge color, I had my systems working over time to get it to double silver. Right now, I am trying to level up my silver badges to gold. I started with the Sophie Germain Prime Search a few days ago and found my first Sophie Germain Prime on the 17th.

Good Luck to you on your experiment!
