1) Message boards : News : Be careful with BOINC computers on the Internet (Message 132184)
Posted 396 days ago by Profile Malcolm BeesonProject donor
Orange (or Wanadoo as it was known) here in France tries to make the Internet as difficult as possible and the most expensive in the world. Getting silly 80.x.x.x addresses is common, they simply don't exist! Thus it is very difficult to run ssh and other secure protocols through their modems, something that has been plaguing me since 2000 when I was paying for an ADSL connection of 512kbs/24kbs with a fixed IP, the sum of 180euros/month! You can complain to abuse@orange.fr but I doubt it'll do you any good.

Great! We'll keep on crunching here, I too suffer from a small ($450/month) pension so the electricity costs are my prime (joke) concern, but the heat from the computers means I don't have to use the gas central heating, so what the hell? Good decision won't change anything here.

+ you've hidden your machines from your listing, ho-hum, think I've another '80286' machine that still works, I've been lucky with the weather too, cold, so I've six machines churning merrily in a small room. Council house, so I cannot install AC.
5) Message boards : Cullen/Woodall prime search : Deadline Noooo~!~!~! (Message 99802)

Thanks Michael for your reply, the job to which you refer (received 08/10/16) has been running for 61hrs now, it is as you assumed a Cullen/Woodall work unit. The good news is that this particular work unit now says it has reached 47+% so the deadline will be easily reached, hope all goes well for the other somewhat huge tasks that have been received since.

I don't understand "trickled" but I'm not going to worry about it since all seems well.

Thanks again for your help.

That's not fair! When I went back to boinc manager the estimated time had changed to 695hrs! But no change in the deadline. :( Hope this work unit goes through OK.

Worried of Béziers.

That's all good to know, I've just got one work unit which is 533hrs estimated time, and is due by the 26/10/2016 (today is the 12th). This means that my computer which turns 24/7 will not finish the job until about the 3/11/2013 i.e. 8 days late! Oups. I'll touch nothing and hope for the best.

I read the announce of the end of CUDA as a warning that old type NVIDIA cards would be incapable of running the new system. I already have four NVIDIA and one AMD that get no work.

Frankly I haven't a clue what I'm doing! I've had to abort several jobs that were due to last well over a year, dumb I know I didn't read the fine print when I set my preferences, but all are running fine now.

Biggest problem is I have only a South facing window and full summer sunshine, I've had to leave the door open and keep an eye on the cats, perhaps someone will create a BOINC job that will tell me why cats like chewing cables with 237V inside ;)

Good luck to everyone, looking forward to seeing how close to the bottom I come, It's my birthday tomorrow so I'm hoping for good news.
