This method you described above is not necessary anymore. Ubuntu has made an SRU which is out since a few weeks and this resolves the problem. The boinc version is now 7.0.27.

Just type the following commands in a terminal or use the update manager:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

After that you will have a very unproblematic version of boinc.

Hi,

I had the same issue come up with my Ubuntu machine after upgrading to 12.04

The boinc manager (version 7.0.24) that comes with Ubuntu 12.04 is broken. According to this thread (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boinc/+bug/991179) version 7.0.27 fixes that problem, has been uploaded and should be available soon.

In the meantime I found a solution on the seti@home forums:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=67864

Ok do "sudo apt-get install boinc" this installs ALL requirements for boinc
then do EXACTLY "sudo apt-get remove boinc-client"
and EXACTLY "sudo apt-get remove boinc-manager"

Keep the standard install from 12.04 and just remove the boinc-manager package and replace it with boinc_7.0.26_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh from the BOINC website (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/)
That way you keep all the dependencies and just replace the broken boinc-manager package.

I have now BOINC 7.0.27 running on Ubuntu 12.04 and all workunits are validating.

I have also running BOINC with 7.0.24 but apt is saying me that libqt4 is missing. I tried this, when I installed the new BOINC:
sudo apt-get remove boinc boinc-client boinc-manager then I entered
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get install boinc boinc-client boinc-manager

Unfortunately I had boinc-manager open when I was uninstalling it. Then I saw in the log that there was libqt4core missing. I don't know why and after a reinstallation of libqt4core there is the same error when I want to upgrade/remove/install something.

Do I really hve to reinstall my system?

I can't remove boinc because the libqt4core file tries to reinstall and fails because the configfile ./etc/xdg/Trolltech.conf is not in sync with other instances. I tried the ppa here: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=67864&nowrap=true#1229806

I don't know hat I can do now. Maybe I must abadon all WUs and then reinstall Ubuntu?

Hi,

Today I updated my main PC to 12.04 after the server installation worked but then another Problem occured. Just after the installation of the ppa boinc didn't work and so I reinstalled it. I didn't notice that the boinc-manager was open and because of that libqt4core could not be installed and then caused many errors, including that there are depencies which could not be resolved. It is really strange because the boinc-manager and the client works fine and apt-get -f didn't esolve the problems.

Does anyone have a clue how to solve this?
