11) Message boards : Number crunching : The Back to the Future Challenge (Message 10823)
Posted 4743 days ago by computerguy09
This morning, one of my crunchers is getting

9/22/2008 7:54:39 AM 1059 Message from server: No work is available for LLR (Woodall)

Help!

Mark

One of my machines gets the same - actually since Friday, as I could find out.
It doesn't matter if I change the subproject, just the text reported changes.
(For the time being I set this one to PPS LLR)

I tried everything to come round the problem, but no success at all (deleting PrimeGrid and re-joining the project, un- and reinstall BOINC....)

It's only ONE machine out of some, but this one shows the problem consequently.

Even more strange: After re-installation ONE single WU was downloaded and processed, all subsequent job requests were denied with the same message.

Regards
Joe

Last time I successfully got a WU from PG for this host was at 17:23 (GMT-4) on 9/19.

This is a dual-core AMD laptop, running CPU Limited to 90% (and has been doing that for at least a week!), and I just noticed today that only one core was busy with BOINC. I've set all the other projects usually running on this machine to No New Work during the challenge.

Other hosts on my account appear to be getting work.

In order to speed up the clean up process, would it be possible to first resend those workunits for which (exactly) one success was reached before the end of the challenge, before sending workunits for which there was no success (e. g. because both tasks were aborted)?

We tried that, but it's too much manual work (we reissued a few hundred though).

Here's a few that may have slipped thru the cracks of the manual "kick".

38080180
38088769
38025931
38079021
38084247

There's still an unsent for each of these.

I have some pending credit WU's that because of timeouts or other errors do not currently have a wingman processing the second copy to validate against.

Since these are valid for challenge scoring, how long will we wait for these to get issued and returned?

I don't have a laptop on this right now, but I did notice that when the LLR went into 'Waiting" mode that it did not stop crunching. The CPU process continued, and the 2 other projects ( dual core PC ) got 25% each as the LLR was using its 50 % still.
Nothing crashed, and the WU finished for all the projects involved, but it is still not normal behavior.

OS, Vista SP1, BOINC 5.10.45
WU

321 LLR is still running an older version of wrapper which is prone to this issue (runaway processes).

Is this going to be fixed?

Just checked one of my rigs, and even tho BOINC says that the task is "waiting to run", the PSP LLR WU that is in memory is running up CPU time. Windows Vista Task Manager shows it taking CPU time, and BOINC Mgr also shows CPU time accrued to that task.

If I tell BOINC mgr to suspend, it stops the other BOINC task (Rosetta), but the PSP LLR unit still runs.

I've taken PSP LLR units off my preferences, but will let this task run to completion so the 28 hrs it has already crunched will be useful.

OS: Vista SP1
BOINC: was 5.10.45, upgraded to 6.2.14 this week

Congratulations to L'Alliance Francophone as they are the first team to surpass 10M Challenge points.

Also, a big thank you to everyone who is helping PrimeGrid and 321 Search tackle this monumental task. The progress achieved so far has been excellent. However, at this time, those huge 321 numbers are moving ahead of us in the race. They are proving to be very tough and are not going down easily. At our current rate, we will fall just short of the 5M goal.

Therefore, we would like to propose a "sprint" this weekend to see if we can get back even or maybe ahead of where we need to be in order to reach 5M by the end of 31 May. We humbly ask all participants and teams to please put a little extra on 321 for the 24th & 25th.

This is truly an uphill Challenge...the closer we get to 5M, the longer the tests take...which means in order to keep the same completion rate, we actually have to increase processing power as the Challenge progresses. It's a difficult task, but one that we are very close to accomplishing. Just over a 1/3 into the Challenge and 9937 WU's have been completed with 19309 remaining. Our daily totals have been:

5/15/2008 - 2100
5/16/2008 - 1166
5/17/2008 - 1847
5/18/2008 - 2002
5/19/2008 - 1347
5/20/2008 - 1285
5/21/2008 - 190 (as of this post)

Thank you again for participating in The Drive for Five Challenge and for all your help and support at PrimeGrid. :)

Set most of my PG crunchers to devote most, if not all of their cycles to PG for this weekend. They should run out of work for other projects by then.

Hopefully this will move me up in the ranks for this challenge!

18) Message boards : Problems and Help : Short deadline WUs? (Message 3888)
Posted 5506 days ago by computerguy09
Today, PG started sending some rather short deadline (< 1 day) WU to one of my machines. Interestingly enough, I already had 2-3 PG WUs already on the machine waiting to be crunched. Because of the short deadline, the machine went into EDF mode and is crunching these WU before any other WU.

While I understand the BOINC behavior, I don't understand why PG is sending these short WU.

Curious minds want to know...

19) Message boards : Problems and Help : Founder of a team, but not a member? (Message 3880)
Posted 5509 days ago by computerguy09
Hmm, you are shown as an active one in the team page. Is there still a problem?

Not sure there isn't still some kind of issue.

I am now shown as an active member. However, I had to "re-join" to the team to get it to show. And it didn't show up right away, but took a day or so to show up.

The other question is why the total team credit is less than the total of the members.

Reason I noticed this is that I didn't see the team membership in BOINCstats, or in BOINCview, so then I finally went back and checked the project.

I thought I was the founder of the team 'Hewlett-Packard'. But it appears that I am not an active member of that team. And I can't re-join the team.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Perhaps when the DB got messed up?

Thanks,

Mark
