@Tim:

Perhaps.

Good to know you agree feedback is important for improvements; either during or after.

To bed!

@Tim: I do get *fun-factor* out of crunching for PG and am impressed by PG admin, as this project is very stable. But...

The challenge was issued by PG.

The previous PPS-LLR challenge allowed larger cache and went smooth. This max 30+ WU (and slow gradual increase) caused some crunchers to dry up, waste electricity and made some competitive participants... more "competitive". :)

Perhaps if this ceiling is brought higher... faster.

Gonna go sleep - hope to wake up to well fed cores.

Allow larger cache, please - otherwise I'll need to babysit uploads and downloads at all my cores.

1 cruncher finished allowed WUs, gotten some new WU but unable to download.

with sufficient WUs, I can disable network communication and go sleep for 6 hrs and won't hit PG-server for that duration.

10mins/WU 8cores = 6 cycles per hour
(8cores x 6) x 6hours = 288 WUs.

450secs/WU 4cores = 8 cycles per hour
(4cores x 8) x 6hours = 192 WUs

At present max 30 WUs, transfer back off is longer than cache.

Thanks.

Update:

Using 258.69 (beta), PPS(S) WUs completes in the range of 65-66mins.

I'm at a lost...

@rroonnaalldd:

Sorry - I was travelling...

terencewee*, what was your last driver version?

This. I'm now guessing your previous driver version was in the 26X range. Those versions were so bad I had to write a workaround specifically for them!

Yes, you are correct - I upgraded from 266.58.

It is a good-strange speed-up - I'll keep using it till next week before trying 258.69; then compare 258.69 vs. 266.58 (WHQL) vs 280.26 (WHQL).

Thanks guys.

Upgraded driver to 280.26 - I note my PPS(S) CUDA WUs are completing ~12% faster.

Usually took ~68-75mins, it's down to ~57-64min now. So every 10 WUs, +1.

Stable - 8800gtx.

Anyone else seeing speedup? Or something is messing (good) with my cruncher.

Not sure whether this help, but recently I got a 8400M GS 128MB (mobile) to crunch CWS and PPSS - it's CUDA 1.1, using 260series driver. All WUs validated fine.

CW-sieve = ~2hrs for 1 WU (~11 WU/day = ~4k)
PPS-sieve = ~11hrs for 1 WU (~2 WU/day = ~9k)

Rytis,

Thank you for providing more info.

The other WU had completed:

Task: 237358749

Let's hope it's valid.

rroonnaalldd,

Whoops! I had a BSOD once due to corrupted video driver.
I guess that must be the cause.

I'll let the other running WU complete [2:23:00 to go, was running during the BSOD] and see whether it has the same problem.

I got 2 new Woodall WU - I guess I will know in another 2 days.

Thanks.

PS: This particular cruncher had completed following LLR, with validated WU:
PPS
SGS
TRP
321

I'm interested to know why my first Woodall LLR WU was completed but marked as invalid.

http://www.primegrid.com/workunit.php?wuid=162825110

I intend to run more Woodall LLR WU - it'll be good to know the reason before committing 44hrs/WU.

Thank you.
