Primegrid computing power
(Message 78338)

GIMPS project has a nice computing power graph and table (http://mersenne.org/primenet/).
Is there a way we could implement something alike here on PrimeGrid?
Would be really interesting to see our figures and dynamics.
PS. Especially that it has been mentioned several times in the forum that our computing power has been growing, but I haven't seen any figures to support it. Moreover, PrimeGrid has seen much better days in terms of overall credit rate per day even after the move to tpsieve.
Is it possible? Yes. Is it something I want to spend time doing? No.
Thanks

ESP/PSP/SoB Sieve checkpoint saving

Sieve tasks run a lot colder on a cpu compared to LLR tasks, so I think there's way less chance they gonna crash. Since they're comparatively small, personally I don't see any need to checkpoint very often.

ESP Sieve WUs come from PrimeGrid with a command of checkpoint saving every 60 seconds.
Is there a way to override it and make checkpointing less frequent?
If you're talking about the BOINC tasks, no, I'm afraid there isn't.
Yes, I did mean BOINC tasks. It's a shame. :(
Thank you for the reply.

The current software is closer to 2^63, which is about 9.2e18, so we have a long way to go.
Does that sentence mean that 9.2e18 is the upperbound that the current software can search to?
Yes.
Rogue, do you know what is the limit for WSS?
Thanks

BOINC vs PRPNet
(Message 77893)

Why only run a few K's? If we do that, with BOINC's resources, we'll push n up higher very quickly. That means longer task times, and rarer primes. If we instead run a much larger selection of k's we'll move away from 1,000,000 digits much more slowly.
You've made a great point here Michael, that I've been thinking about. Since searching Proth Primes makes "n" to grow and with higher "n" primes get scarcer, shouldn't we open a MEGA prime search based on SGS primes?
The point is that in SGS search "n" doesn't grow (grows terribly slowly) and WU length stays the same, then we can find mega primes quicker than in other searches. For those who want to find a bigger prime there are lots of options on Primegrid.
What do you think about this idea?

When will be subproject "Sierpinski Problem: ESP, PSP, & SoB (Sieve)" sieved to optimal depth?
Thanks, Martin

Thank you Michael for the response.
Another question is why don't we sieve in smaller ranges, say 10M-15M and stop at optimal sieve depth? It means we won't be "overseiving" lower ranges.
