1) Message boards : News : New LLR apps (Message 117363)
Posted 514 days ago by klepel
If you want to run in multithreading for 321 subproject, then the name is llr321 and not LLRESP.
<app_version> <app_name>llr321</app_name> <cmdline>-t 4</cmdline> <avg_ncpus>4</avg_ncpus> </app_version>

Thanks!

Just quick question as the app_config file (I found in the FORUM) seems not to work as intended (Work Unit is: llr321):
<app_config>
<app>
<name>LLRESP</name>
<fraction_done_exact/>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
</app>
<app_version> <app_name>LLRESP</app_name>
<cmdline>-t 4</cmdline>
<avg_ncpus>4</avg_ncpus>
</app_version>
</app_config>
I would like that each LLR WU uses 4 threads of the CPU. I think it is the cmdline part: is it: -4 t or is: it -4t?
3) Message boards : Sieving : Recerve 2nd GPU for GFN Sieving, means exclude 2nd GPU on BOINC (Message 116828)
Posted 529 days ago by klepel
Sorry, I have not been clear: The setiathome part does not bother me at all, this works as intended.

I have a working cc_config on another computer, which does allow to sieve manually and stops only the GPU in BOINC:
<cc_config>
<options>
<exclusive_gpu_app>gfnsvocl_w64_2G.exe</exclusive_gpu_app>
<exclusive_gpu_app>fsievecl64.exe</exclusive_gpu_app>
</options>
</cc_config>

What I am looking for is that on another computer with two GPUs, the above config-file stops only the second GPU in BOINC but not the first and/or all GPUs. It is also not intended to exclude any other BOINC project, it is only to stop the second GPU, when I use: gfnsvocl_w64_2G.exe or fsievecl64.exe . So my question is: How can I tell this my computer?

I would like to Sieve GFN on my 2 GPU and therefore stop the 2nd GPU in BOINC for use in BOINC.
My command line is:
gfnsvocl_w64_2G YY XXX XXX d1

I tried the following cc_config.xml:
<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
<exclude_gpu>
<url>http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/</url>
<device_num>0</device_num>
</exclude_gpu>
</options>
<options>
<exclusive_gpu_app>gfnsvocl_w64_2G.exe</exclusive_gpu_app>
<device_num>1</device_num>
</options>
</cc_config>

But this does not the trick. It stops both GPUs (d0 and d1), but I want that it stops only 2nd GPU (d1). Any ideas?
(I do exclude setiathome for another reason on the first GPU (d0))
Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry for the misspelling in the title: Reserve 2nd GPU for GFN Sieving, means exclude 2nd GPU on BOINC.
If someone can change it, many thanks!

Just to come back with some test results (it is one run each):
-p7747G -P7748G -n10 -N1M -t1 -b250 -s1000 -q: 3.148K p/sec, Time 10857.99 seconds
-p7748G -P7749G -n10 -N1M -t1 -b250 -s2000 -q: 3.516K p/sec, Time 9576.95 seconds
-p7759G -P7760G -n10 -N1M -t1 -b256 -s5120 -q: 3.859K p/sec, Time 8657.44 seconds
-p7760G -P7761G -n10 -N1M -t1 -b128 -s10240 -q: 3.606K p/sec, Time 9655.42 seconds
-p7761G -P7762G -n10 -N1M -t1 -b256 -s10240 -q: 3.939K p/sec, Time 8357.68 seconds
All results on a GTX650ti with CPU with climateprediction.net loaded.

I am running Factorial Sieve on a GTX650ti. It seems quite slow in comparison to GFN Sieving.

Can anybody besides Rick Reynolds (GTX460) post his settings for faster crunching? Has anybody tested the settings on newer GPUs?

I used: -n10 -N1M -t1 -b250 –s5000 –q, but it was not a huge speed-up!

Thanks a lot!

Strange!

This computer does works within the Temp Limits: Te first GPU gets about 73º C hot and the second ab out 63º C hot, as I use a Fan Curve.

GPUGRID, which is more demanding never stoped/crashed becuase of temperatures.

As well, I do PPS Sieve and manual GFN Sieving on the same computer and never had issues.

I changed to GFN16, but I am still wondering what actually happens.

Change: I will do what mackarel suggested and try again.

I just had this happen to the GTX 960 on my son's computer. It's not a computer I've ever used for crunching before, so I don't have any history about it's reliability, and I don't have temperature monitoring software installed. That being said, it sounded like the GPU fan was getting a nice workout. :)

It's hard to say what caused it -- basically it could be a lot of things. I need to see if this happens a lot or not. It's been running GFN-17s for almost a day and a half now before this one task broke.

The recommendation from Shaun worked. I down-clocked the two GTX 970 cards by 62 Hz, and the problem disappeared.

Did restart! Did not help!

I switched to GFN16 and applied my old config file to run two WUs per GPU, although it does not change GPU load and I am not sure, if total turn-around is faster, than with 1 Wu per GPU.
