Hi j.sheridan

Thanks.

May I ask, does HT stand for HyperThreading?

If so I know where to go to amend that.

If not what does the HT you are referring to stand for?

Hi
consider Sandybridge E and AVX and OC to 4.5
We could have a longer discussion in 3 days time.
Cheers
Ross*

Hi Ross

Sandybridge E and AVX is not an option just at this time due to lack of finances in the short term and having just bought the GPU in the box.

Looking forward to the OC discussion. :)

Maybe you can guide me on the black art of voltages which I have not really grasped so far and not really sure I know what I am looking at.

The clock on this processor is just a pure simple stepwise MB increase until it fell over then stepped back 2 steps for safety sake.

Have always felt this processor could go quite a bit higher probably peaking at around 4.2 for safety sake. Just don't know how to do it despite watching various videos on YouTube and reading various articles around the web.

Ni Usucapio Libertatis :)

Good point on the WU times. Maybe I was one of the unlucky ones who didn't get any of the shorter one to start :).

Longest WU so far stands at 21.6 hours. Shortest stands at 12.63 hours.

BONIC keeps switching tasks as well with a current queue of 9 WU's waiting to run which are partially completed. One of which is an absolute monster with 18. 68 hours done and another 9.1 hours to complete it. Errrk.

Some interesting stuff is happening on this project which gives me cause to think that this machine is not performing as it should for some reason.

After the initial flush of WU's arrived on the results page, I started comparing machines because there are some which returned results quite a few hours quicker than this one.

These are the people who's machines I have looked who all returned results several hours faster, in an attempt to try and understand what could be done in better ways on my machine.

Most of the machines appear to be slower in the Giggles per second department compared to 3629Mhz (slightly clocked from the standard 3333Mhz for this processor). The potentially significant differences I see are:
1. amount of memory being used - in most cases 8 to 24 gig to my 4gig.
2. Windows 7 64 bit or Linux

Is there anyone who has the technical know how to advise if the two area's spotted above would make this amount of difference?

And if there are things I have missed which would make the difference?

Thanks in advance and looking forward to your reply's.

Kind regards

The Knighty Ni.

Just suspended the WU's which will trespass into the start time for the challenge, so hoping that I can download WU from the get go starting block :)

BAD idea. Well, it's a good idea; it just won't work. A+ for effort. :)

BOINC will NOT download any PrimeGrid WUs if you have a PrimeGrid WU suspended.

Your options are:

1) Let those WUs run through to the end. You'll lose some challenge time.

2) Abort those WUs. You'll lose the work you already have done on those WUs.

3) Set "no new work" now. Allow those WUs to continue to run until just after the challenge starts. Set your cache to at least 5 days (the length of the challenge) and enable new work. Download enough TRP WUs to last the entire challenge (if the server permits that many). NOW suspend those other WUs to allow the TRP WUs to run immediately. Rinse and repeat later if you don't have enough WUs to last the entire challenge.

4) Set up a second BOINC installation (possibly inside a VM) and use that copy of BOINC for the challenge while the original BOINC installation is shut down.

Thanks Michael

Did a mix of 2 and 3.

Aborted the ones that didn't have much time on them and kept the ones with several hours.

Challenge WU's have downloaded OK and got a days worth in the queue. :)

Interesting point.

Now that you mention it, I remember having trouble getting started on a previous challenge last year.

Can't remember whether I had to abort all WU for all projects or not, or just the WU's for PrimeGrid.

I'm glad to see that some of you is enthusiastic about at least trying to reach 1 million results. However I think it may not be that easy to get there, even if all our active hosts decide to join the TRP LLR challenge, it means that each host has to do 50 to 51 (50.73) results per active host, if we should be to reach 1 million results. It appears that my I5 is able to do just about that amount of results, but older hosts can not be expected to reach 51 results during the extend of the challenge and most newer hosts will even if they are 24/7 dedicated to the challenge, have a hard time reaching the 51 results/host due to the increased n during the challenge. Well let's hope some of the inactive hosts resurrect from the dead and come to help us.

Good luck to anyone on reaching your goals. Now let's go knock off some of those stubborn k's as the challenge begins in 25 hours :)

Take care

KEP

The best I can expect to manage is between 15 and 20 units. 5 on one machine which takes 2 days a unit (by doing half a unit, suspending it and finishing it on the other core if I get time to do it) and about 12 on the other machine. If I can get the old win95 machine working again then maybe it will finish 2 more units.

Each of us has their own aims and challenges in a challenge, after getting my first points in the last challenge my aim is to repeat the feat!!

Looking forward to this challenge.

Not sure this machine will reach 51 returned results during the course of the challenge.

Turn around time varies between 11hrs 20 mins to 14 hrs 45 mins and since installing the GPU yesterday they are taking a little longer.

With 6 active cores I should be able to if I switch the GPU off.

Just suspended the WU's which will trespass into the start time for the challenge, so hoping that I can download WU from the get go starting block :)

Thanks for the suggestions and help everyone.

Everything is stable now and running as expected.

Not far from completing WU Numero 3 now, literally within the next 35 Mins :)

Target time of just shy of 3 hours per WU which I originally calculated, is now happening for the Generfer WU's :)

Sweet looks like the next WU is going to come in around the 2.93 hours as expected. :)

The first one didn't make that due to wrong settings which have been pointed out.

Thank you to everyone who has helped.

Lets see what happens over the next few days. I may need to draw upon your knowledge to refine this GPU.

Kind regards

Grrrr

Yes pretty pictures have been enabled on my PC.

Switched off as of now. :)

Latested screenshot which shows the WU is fine and ahead of the last one by quite a margin.

Good point.

How can I tell which drivers are installed?
