1) Message boards : Number crunching : Ballance between applications (Message 7470)
Posted 5811 days ago by takukas
The weight of sieving apps is 5, llrTPS is 3 (other apps have different weights). Let's say that:
llrTPS=5,
gcwsieve=3,
pspsieve=3,
SUM(*)=llrTPS + gcwsieve + pspsieve, in your case 5 + 3 + 3 = 11.

You will have a:
llrTPS/SUM(*)*100 = 5 / 11 * 100 = 45% chance to get work for llrTPS;
gcwsieve/SUM(*)*100 = 3 / 11 * 100 = 27% chance to get work for any of the sieve apps.

However, although work distribution chances are not equal, there is an additional factor - the workunits for different apps take different time to finish. For example, llrWOO takes much longer to finish, but it's weight is set at a lower number (0.8 at the time of writing this post).

Current app weights are (they might change any time!) (Duh, i just noticed that sieve apps weights are 5.5 and llrTPS 3... but they don't change much of what I wrote above, just the calculations ;)):
primegen 0.2
llrTPS 3
llrWOO 0.8
llrCUL 0.8
gcwsieve 5.5
psp_sr2sieve 5.5

Very helpfull and to the point.

Thanx!!

Hi,

I have a question. On one host I have chosen the sieving applications and the TPS application. I notice that the work units I receive are not equally divided between the applications. The TPS work units are far less than the other two. Am I missing something (eg there is balance I just can’t see it because I have to look 24h a day) or there is a preference towards the sieving applications.

Best,

If you restart a Cullen workunit, CPU time resets to 0 (because of the reporting bug). This was the case; the restart can be clearly seen in the log.

So how does this work out with credit? Is credit an average of the claimedcredit or calculated diferently? Because if you average those it will vary depenting how many times a pc restarts.

Hi!

I tryied to check my stats today and I found out that PrimeGrid has a diferent BOINC Cross Project IDentifier than my other projects (Seti, Climate Prediction, Pirates@home). Is there a way to fix that?

PrimeGrid gives: c71b20bd19b9483b3803448b93522a37

and the rest give:
753fb41163ee9e495853f3350da74a0a

I had no problem up to today.

Hi!

Just found my 2nd prime and I also have 1 doublecheck.

So 2:3 0,66

Unfortunatelly my prime is going to be on the list for about one week (as I was told when reporting it) and my first prime has gone of the list allready.

I also have one question. When a prime goes of the list does it disapear?

There must be an error in the Primes Database calculation. It may be 1 week before the first n=333,333 falls out of the Top 5000 but your recently submitted prime will remain for around 6 months (that's how long it's taken PG to fill up between 3000-5000).

To see the complete list, visit:

http://primes.utm.edu/primes/lists/all.txt

This list contains the Top 5000 primes plus some extra special forms...thus the 5688 total.

For more details about the list, visit:

http://primes.utm.edu/primes/home.php

No, your prime does not disappear...however, it's no longer listed on the Top 5000 page. You can still access it though through the page above using the search or you can just click on "All of this Person's Primes" on your biography page.

Thank very much for your reply!

It seems that actually both primes are on the list! I was confused because the second one was not veryfied yet so I could only see one. Both though have the same number of digits, is this normal?

Thanx,

Minas
