1) Message boards : Problems and Help : Genefer 2.02 issues (Message 63899)
Posted 2451 days ago by Profile Tony Li
Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions.

1. For security reasons, I can't really play with the screen blank timer.

2. This is a MacBook Pro (i.e., a laptop). Not much that I can do to change the cooling. The fans spin up automagically and the OS does monitor the temps of the system and will shut things down if they start to overheat.

3. How does one do that on a Mac? The CUDA preferences pane has no obvious controls for that.

If it helps, I'm beginning to suspect some interaction with sleeping the laptop when I close it.

Tony

Started playing with Einstein@Home CUDA tasks and seeing similar problems. I'm wondering if there's a sleep/CUDA bug lurking down below.

Thanks, I'm certainly willing to try things out.

No, this system is not overclocked, unless Apple has done something extremely weird. This is just an off the shelf MBP, zero hardware mods, and no tricky software (that I can think of).

Hi,

I'm seeing Genefer tasks frequently error out and take my system with it. I'm running a 2013 MBP, OS X 10.8.2, and Genefer 2.02 (CUDA 32_13) with CUDA version 5.0.37.

Example problem: task 440570153.

Looking around, it seems like lots of other systems are seeing similar problems. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tony
5) Message boards : Number crunching : Cuda memory leak (Message 57172)
Posted 2671 days ago by Profile Tony Li
Hi,

Every couple of weeks, I start getting a string of computation errors. These are all for insufficient memory on CUDA. Only way of fixing it is to reboot the entire system. Stopping and restarting BOINC has no effect. I'm only crunching on the second CUDA in my system, so Prime Grid is the only application using CUDA.

See my errored results for more info.

Contact me if you need more details: tony.li@tony.li

Mac OS X (Lion)
BOINC manager 7.0.31

6) Message boards : Problems and Help : Not getting any work (Message 53261)

1) Do you have ANY other projects other than PrimeGrid attached to the computer? If so, BOINC may have decided that the other projects need to run. Set the other projects to "No New Tasks" and abort any tasks for the other projects.

Yes, SETI@Home. But that's CPU only on my system and PG should be giving me CUDA-only. BTW, it's been this way for many months and working just fine.

2) Are there any PrimeGrid WUs (for ANY subproject) on your computer that are suspended? That will prevent BOINC from downloading any more WUs until you unsuspend those WUs.

No other PG WUs.

If neither of those apply, then please post the relevant lines from your BOINC log that show what happens when you try to request work with the Update button.

Ok, thanks. I tried that, but no joy. Other suggestions?

I've tried detaching, but am unable to get any work.

See this task, for example.

Since I'm wasting GPU cycles on these, I'm going to pull back from CW for awhile. Folks, please lemme know if and when this gets fixed. Thanks.
