what the shane, my PSU is off...i must wait to monday for new bigger one :-( GTX470 want more power than expected :-((

Did you get your new PSU? How is it? What wattage?

I recently had a problem on my 1 million/day machine where it started overloading the 1100 watt UPS, so I transferred everything except the main box to another UPS. Now the 1100 watt UPS is fully loaded, but not overloaded.

Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.

I just could not find where it was this morning. I don't change it often enough for me to remember where it is.

Stupid question, because I have and made a forum signature line. For the life of me I cannot find where to alter it today. It's driving me nuts!

Where do I change it?

5) Message boards : Number crunching : What is the best laptop to buy for PrimeGrid crunching? (Message 32513)
Posted 2961 days ago by Profile FloontProject donor
Well, the time has come to purchase my own laptop, instead of using my employer's as a surrogate machine. (Our home "has" two functioning machines - one Dell T7500 server with three NVIDIA 460 Fermi cards and one 260; and my laptop (broken since December) which I use for side work, general home use and crunching at night).

I am no longer loyal to a brand-name as I stated in my first post, so I am considering any known name-brand except for HP.

Asus and Toshiba seem to put out some excellent machines. Both have laptops that use 640M Fermi graphic cards. Unfortunately, not a lot a lot has changed in the market between September 2010 when I started this thread and today, February something, 2011. I am looking at Asus and Toshiba laptops because they have 460M Fermi cards in them for Cuda work. The Asus G53JW-A1 looks to be good candidate for a crunching laptop, but I am open to suggestions for superior laptops/notebooks.

I am aware that Asus loads their machines with bloatware, but I'll image the machine after my initial purchase, then reformat it and install a fresh Windows 7 (64) Business opsys on it, and reload the Asus drivers from their driver disk.

All comments, suggestions, and recommendations are appreciated!

6) Message boards : Number crunching : How to do "GPU only" for just one of my machines? (Message 30250)

If you are willing to mess with cc_config.xml, you may try <ncpus>0</ncpus>.
cc_config is per host so it would be a way if you want to run different BOINC projects with GPU only.

Thanks, I tried that earlier today, but for whatever reason it still gets 1 CPU task. If I suspend that CPU task, it won't request any more tasks, but now I've tied up a task that someone should be working on. Here's my cc_config.xml file:

<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<mem_usage_debug>0</mem_usage_debug>
</log_flags>
<options>
<report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately>
<save_stats_days>7</save_stats_days>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
<ncpus>0</ncpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

In your preferences add another (home,work, or school)
Turn off the CPU box, leave the GPU boxes checked that way you will only run GPU tasks

I'm afraid, I'll have to try this method. I dislike the terms "work, school, home". I'd rather create my own locations, but it is what it is.

Thanks.

7) Message boards : Number crunching : How to do "GPU only" for just one of my machines? (Message 30243)
Posted 2999 days ago by Profile FloontProject donor
As most people have multiple machines doing PrimeGrid work, I change my preferences periodically depending on project task WU's I want to work on collectively and for the quasi-monthly challenges for the CPU and GPU.

However, since I have one particular machine on which I dedicate PRPnet CPU tasks, I have a GPU going to waste just doing nothing. If I start Boinc, then it reads the preferences file and I get both CPU and GPU tasks. The CPU tasks interfere with PRPnet tasks. I just want this particular machine to run Boinc GPU tasks only, leaving the CPU's available for other things including PRPnet.

So, how do I configure this one machine for Boinc GPU tasks only, without affecting the preferences on my other machines?

Are PRPnet credits still exported to PrimeGrid PSA about twice/month?

I started running PRPnet net on December 25, 2010:

But I have absolutely no PSA WU's at all, yet.

Am I doing something incorrectly or am I being my normal impatient self?

...our team need more GPU power to be good in primegrid :-)
I just put my 3rd Fermi card (GTX 460) in service today in my Dell T7500 server. The GPU's alone are cranking out 998K per day as of this moment, but the GPU physically lowest in the machine, is running about 92C and I'm getting some errors in the last hour, so I'm going to drop my overclocking down a bit. We'll see.

My new laptop which I'll be buying within the next 6 weeks is going to have one GTX 460M in it, as well as an i7 cpu (8 cores effectively). So that will crank out some WU's during this winter. Summertime... not going to run PrimeGrid on it. PrimeGrid + Laptop + Summer + Florida = uncomfortable me.
