Well...
Just to confirm our suspicions....it is the .64 CPUs in the GPU tasks that is causing my problem.

PG is a bit slow in handing out GPU work right now, and I just crunched out my GPU cache.

When I got down to 2 GPU tasks left running, a 3rd CPU task finally started running.
When I got down to 1 GPU task left running, the 4th core fired up.

So if the project could amend the amount of CPU used by the GPU tasks to something less than perhaps .45 or so, many hosts might be more productive without manual intervention and manipulating of ever changing app_info files.

EDIT...
And, as if just to prove my point, whilst I was typing the above post, I got 5 GPU WUs, and when the GPUs went back to work, Boinc paused 2 of the CPU tasks and is back to idling 2 cores of the CPU.

I think this may be the root of the problem....
The GPU tasks are showing .64 CPUs.....
Which was referred to earlier in this thread.
As to how to work around.....?

Well......sounds like this is not going to be easily solved.
The edit bit is not going to be practical if it is reset when getting new work.

Just have to let it plod along as is. Odd though that some others do not seem to have the problem.

IIRC, the pps-cuda-application itself reserves 0.55 cores of a cpu. Take a look in your "client_state.xml".

That's it!

Fixed it by editing the value (mine was at 0.57, reduced to 0.47 and both CPU cores are crunching as well as both GPUs).

Maybe I missed it, but exactly what are we editing and where should I be looking for it?
Sorry if I am missing something obvious.

Got rid of the ncpus......
Still no dice. Only runs 2 CPU tasks, and task manager shows about 49% system idle usage. 2 cores are going to waste, and I am at a loss.
Boinc recognizes 4 cores in the startup messages.

This was never an issue while running Seti. Nothing in the setup was changed.

maximum memory/disk usage configured in client?
are you running other projects at the same time?

Got tons of free disk.
Memory set to 100% usage.

Seti is the only other project loaded, and of course, they have no work available right now, so PG is the only thing running.

Welcome (back) to PG ...
It depends on the subproject -- SOB can run for weeks! Many subs to choose from, some run in minutes, most many hours or days. Look into the Badges for accomplishments.

Well, nothing like that here so far.
Kinda curious why it only runs 2 CPU tasks instead of 4 alongside the GPU tasks.
Normal?
Any opti apps here? Or just stock...?

Kitties do PG.........

Not the same as Seti.....but it does keep the GPUs warm.
And the kitties do like to be warm and cuddly.

Snappy little WUs......I like that.

Mr. Sattler where the heck have you been hiding out?
Good to see you are still kicking. ;)
Jon

Hiding out at Seti, as usual.
Still kicking about, got kicked off the forums again. So I thought I'd run a little PG, as my team was looking for some help here.
