11) Message boards : Problems and Help : Connecting with 5.1.X (Message 1479)
Posted 6157 days ago by Profile Guy PauwelsProject donor
Oh, so this project is running the version 5 software. What happens when I try to attach is the following:

1. In the attaching wizard I enter http://www.primegrid.com/ as project url.

2. In the next step I choose 'use an existing account', and I enter my e-mail address and the password I use to logon to the website.

3. Next the wizard tells me that the registration has failed. In the boinc message windows I see a message like 'Missing account key'

I have tried the same with entering my account ID instead of the password, with same result.

With the password logon in place, I was under the impression that PrimeGrid runs the version 5 server software. But I can not connect a new client with boinc 5.1.5. Whether I use my password or my account ID, connecting the new host fails. So I guess I'm wrong about PrimeGrid being ready for version 5. Am I?

I have been away for a while, so excuse me if this has been answered before.

At this time only Seti, Seti Beta and one other project (that escapes me) support the version 5 boinc. So unless you are a boinc alpha tester there isn't any reason to install the 5.1.1 client.

Sorry, Poorboy, I wasn't taking aim at you. I understood you correctly. I meant 'how do you get around' more in the sense of 'how does one get around'.

And, Cori, I think that the number of CPUs reported for a host is what the boinc client returns to the server. If you look at the host with > 2000 rac, you see that it has only one cpu. Maybe something to look into. Rytis?

Hm, Poorboy. What I don't understand in this case is how you get around the daily quota if all your machines work together as one host. I would expect in that case that all machines together can only get 35 wu per day.

Afaik this means that your boinc has trouble reaching the server of this project. Do you have other projects attached and do they communicate all right? Maybe there are other solutions, but you might consider detaching and re-attaching (the way I described) if there are not too many WU in cache. You might also check out the boinc wiki. Perhaps it says more about this type of message.

If anyone else is having trouble connecting new hosts: Copy the file account_message.boincstats.com.xml from an existing host to the Program Files/boinc directory of the new host. Then stop and restart the boinc manager. Worked for me.

Tutta55, it's really nothing more than somebody merging a bunch of Hosts together that are not the same Hosts, but the option to Merge them is there so some people take advantage of it ...

So this would mean that all of his boxes have the same processor, same os and same host name? Phew, people will go through some lengths... I can't even join hosts that really are one and the same :P Sure nothing even more fishy is going on?

I just had a look at the stats per host. Perhaps I'm missing something, but how can a single computer possibly have a RAC of over 2000? It is a computer with 1 cpu. But even assuming 4 cpus. Quota of 35 per day per cpu, right? And let's assume we get 8 credits per WU. That gives a maximum of 8*35 = 280 per cpu or 1120 for 4 cpus. Hence my question...

James, if you look in your account's general preferences, you'll see a setting 'Connect to network about every XXX days'. The setting means just what is says. It doesn't mean that boinc must continuously keep for XXX days of work in cache. For more information on this I gladly refer to the Boinc-Wiki http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
