Sabotage of Number Crunching

Please ban this user/host. Set a counter on allowable tasks per day and reduce the number for failed tasks.

There actually is a limit, but it's set very high. We don't want to stop people with very fast computers running very short tasks from getting work.
Other than causing a delay in wingman tasks completing, and thus delaying credit, is this causing any problems for *you*? Obviously this person's computer has a problem, but is it causing problems for other people?
Complete a task successfully, +1 to limit so there is no issue for people completing tasks successfully. Fail then -1 from limit. Other projects have more than just a static limit.

best wu for thread ripper?

I wouldn't recommend SGS as a best WU. I've had to run a lot more hours of SGS to get to 1mil. Older tasks were ncpu = 2 but that seemed like a waste.
Here's a 5950x host

Weird host

This host: https://www.primegrid.com/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1057098 is getting a lot of tasks without returning any...
They are still going !
PrimeGrid doesn't have the ability to stop giving tasks to a host that never returns any results ?
In egregious cases, the server will temporarily stop sending tasks. The threshold is very high, however. Affected tasks will automatically get resent, and it’s not really a big problem, except, perhaps, to the person running that computer.
If, on the other hand, the server’s limits were more restrictive, while potentially “solving” a non-problem, it would create loads of real problems for other people whose computers managed to trigger the protections because they were testing something, or were running a video game, or there was a power spike, etc. Do not underestimate the awesome ability of a modern computer to mangle an astronomical number of tasks in a very short period of time!
The system works well the way it is. We do not want to replace a small problem with a much larger problem.
The host is still going. 0 for 3234 atm with just as many in queue.
Went to look of one of my pendings and this host is the main task.

Tour de Primes 2021
(Message 147963)

I always run 2 BOINC clients on PCs that have a GPU. 1 client just runs CPU tasks, the other only GPU tasks. It allows for separate queues and better control. For projects that use the exact same app, like E@H, for CPU & GPU, the ETA ends up averaging and worthless. It makes bunkering and competitions easier to manage as well.
This is an interesting idea! I think I must look in to this.
I'll have to do some googling to find out how, though...
I made a guide awhile back on Overclock.net BOINC->Guide sub forums. Windows and Linux plus WUProb/BoincTask setup.

Does anyone have any advise on how to stop GFN-16 tasks from downloading whilst 1 task is crunching?
While 1 task was crunching, I actually had 2 tasks download and wait. This will hurt my 1st rate.
I have my resource share set to 0 which is the strange part.
TIA.
Edit - If I set Max # of simultaneous PrimeGrid tasks to 1... this stops others from downloading.
So with a 3950X, when i run PPSE, perhaps I just set that number to 17 (16 CPU tasks & 1 GPU task) That might fix it :)

Better multi-threading
(Message 132307)
Posted 1312 days ago by mmonnin
IMPORTANT:
PrimeGrid will be switching to a preferences-based method for setting up multi-threading in the near future.
If you are using app_config.xml (probably to set up multi-threading) it's going to stop working when the multi-threading system goes live. If you want your app_config.xml to continue working, you should make modifications now that will allow it to work both before and after the change.
Only LLR projects are affected.
Every <app_version> block for an LLR project should be duplicated, with the duplicate having a <plan_class>mt<plan_class> line added to it. For example, this is the before and after for ESP, set up for 4 threads:
<app>
<name>llrESP</name>
<fraction_done_exact>1</fraction_done_exact>
<report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately>
</app>
<app_version>
<app_name>llrESP</app_name>
<cmdline>-t 4</cmdline>
<avg_ncpus>4</avg_ncpus>
</app_version>
<app_version>
<app_name>llrESP</app_name> <plan_class>mt</plan_class> <cmdline>-t 4</cmdline>
<avg_ncpus>4</avg_ncpus>
</app_version>
You can do this today, and the original app_version block will continue to work. Once we install the new multi-tasking, that app_version block will be ignored and the second app_version block for the mt plan class will take over. At that point, most people can erase app_config.xml, or at least the parts for LLR projects, and start using the multi-threading controls on the website.
I don't have an exact time yet for this change, but it won't happen in August. I'm hoping for early September.
A bit late to be able to edit the post but there is a [ B ] that looks to be ignored by a [ PRE ]. I've never see a PRE function before in a forum.
I went to copy the post to my team and noticed the formatting was goofy.

I just started one of these tasks on a GTX1060 3gb, and it seems to have instantly used up an entire CPU core... anyone else seeing this, or is there a known commandline necessary to minimize CPU? (this is based on what boinctasks reports, I saw near 100% CPU on an 8-core processor, and saw the CPU usage of the PPSE tasks that were also running start to decline)
...I do feel lucky still.
Same here in Linux. Normal for an OCL app in Linux.
