1) Message boards : Number crunching : Badges - Full Sets! (Message 33610)

The GPUs work only on two projects. A full set of badges still requires commitment and dedication to CPU processing.

I have finally attained a full set of silver badges. Now I am off and running for the gold. Now that's going to take a little patience on my part.

I had plenty of Challage jobs in my queue. Wanted to run some GPU. Well, it's bad enough that I can't select which project the GPU work will come from, but last night my machines downloaded all kinds of other jobs. This would not have been a problem but for the fact that they went high priority - stopped my challenge jobs - and proceeded to suck up CPU time. This caused our team to drop one place and I dropped 10 places in the challenge positions!

No Problems Here! Solar Extreme was one Person down - In the middle of an SOB run.

I had the same problem. There is another thread that talks about it http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=2619. It appears to be a problem that started after the server upgrade. The only thing that works for me is to go to "Your account," select "PrimeGrid Preferences" and turn off the Use CPU option. You should be able to get GPU work. After downloading GPU jobs, turn the CPU option back on. It's a bit of a pain but it does work.

I have been running GPU fine untill this morning. Now no matter what I do I keep getting the mesage no work available. I have even tried setting Proth Prime Sieve as my only project. My CPUs are running long jobs with no change.
7) Message boards : News : PrimeGrid Donation Drive 2010 Fall (Message 25599)

I think the Donation Drive is great! I have donated in the past, but had no idea that PrimeGrid was having to use emergency funds to keep operational. As much money as we, PrimeGriders, put into computers, power and time to find the primes, it should not be a problem to fund PrimeGrid. Rytis is doing us a service, and we should all support him. I encourage everyone to take a look at how much they spend to run PrimeGrid and then donate a percentage of that just as if they had to pay their electric bill.

I certainly would like to see some better control. I was running the PPS Sieve Cuda version on a backup computer which I can not run all the time because of power requirements. The computer was was running a CPU Application that stopped feeding for a short while and loaded some big jobs including an SOB. I did not see it right away and had to abort the jobs because the computer would not be ran enough time to complete the jobs before their deadline. I really hate aborting jobs I have wasted power and time to run!

perhaps the stats pages should be preemptively disabled for short challenges.

I think the stats are a good motivator. I would not mind if they were less often during a short WU Challenge. I would rather see the validator shut down to start the challenge and then run only if the server is doing well.

I also wonder is this a problem that could be fixed by putting a little, or a lot, of money into hardware?

I know Solar Extreme had some computers down for a little while last night because they could not connect. I am surprised that PrimeGrid has done this well with the short work units. I think everyone at PrimeGrid has done a great job. I wonder what it would take for PrimeGrid to be able to run a challenge like this without server problems? Is it even possible?
