Yesterday we had one of those rare but delightful UK autumn days. The kind where the sun is shining in a blue sky and it is warm enough to go in shirt sleeves but the sun is low enough to mould the buildings.

One of my children is having a few days off before starting a new job. Erin and I met her by London Bridge (note London Bridge is not Tower Bridge; the bridge from London in Arizona is the previous London Bridge not Tower Bridge). We walked upstream on the right bank to Hungerford Bridge (which is not in Hungerford!) enjoying the sun and the sights.

As we walked I saw on the left bank Unilever House which looked stunning. I have just realised that exactly 35 years previously I started my first job as a trainee lawyer in Unilever House. I got paid GBP10400 a year starting that job which would then have been about USD14000. I could not believe my luck. I could certainly have never imagined the micro and macro changes I have seen since.

Anyway when the plague is over come and visit London in the sun.

No refunds for inclement weather.

You both are stretching it just a little thin

Was that the one where Keith did the brilliant drum solo?

While Erin and I have been banned our children are more careful.

They have fuel.

The kids are alright.

perhaps you've found a substitute station or do you get your fuel anyway, anyhow, anywhere?

Out here? In the fields?

Erin and I used to buy petrol/gasoline from the local service station while playing The Who loudly in the car. Now we are banned. We won't get fuelled again.

As it happens I nipped into my Club for lunch and had fish and chips at my favourite seat on Thursday. Not as nice as the Fryers' Delight especially lacking the company of the lady barrister and my client but good none the less https://flic.kr/p/2jJ6Jtt

That is terrible news Crunchi. I am so sad about your news. I really can't find words to say.I had hoped to do a round the world tour. I got part way round it and then COVID came. I had really wanted to meet your mother (I would have loved to have met your father too but he died long before). I wonder quite a lot about how your mother and I would have got along. We came from a different time and a different culture but I have an idea we'd have been good friends very quickly.

On behalf of us all we feel your pain.

I have known Erin for 37 years and been married to her for 33. We sometimes still surprise each other. She asked me to do an unpleasant task. I replied "I'll do it drecly" which is the south west English expression used when maƱana conveys an undue degree of urgency. The mutual incomprehension some time later could have been comical but I don't like arguments with her.
