Hajra Magyarok / Calling All Hungarians

Sziasztok Magyarok!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome fellow Hungarians and non-Hungarians alike! Did you know there are over 350 Hungarian teams here at BOINC? And yet when you examine the list of the world's top 50 teams there is not a single Hungarian team among them. I would like to change that.

My goal is to unite as many teams (or individual members) as possible. Please join me on my quest.

And of course, you don't have to be Hungarian to join - anybody and everybody is welcome on the team! Please ... Come Join Us

Has anyone else experienced slow-down of the app while running concurrently with the CPU?

Yes, I am affected by this problem, but for me it seems to be an OS issue. I tried testing several WU's on the same host using both Win XP Pro 64 and also 64-bit version of Ubuntu 9.10.

Host is an Intel Core2 Duo E6850 (stock 3.0GHz overclocked to 3.40GHz) with 4GB installed memory. Video card is an 8800GT wih 512MB memory and slight overclocking. BOINC client is 6.10.18 on WinXP and 6.10.17 on Ubuntu. Windows nVidia driver version 195.62 and Linux nVidia driver version 190.42.

All tests were run with two AP26 WUs running on the CPU and one AP26 Cuda WU running concurrently.

Results using WinXP Pro 64 were an average elapsed time of 15 minutes for CPU WUs and 10 minutes elapsed time for the Cuda WU.

With no changes to any hardware configuration, and running the same type of testing (two CPU AP26 and one Cuda AP26 running concurrently) using 64-bit Linux Ubuntu 9.10 the average elapsed time for CPU WUs was 14 minutes and average elapsed time of 56 minutes for the CUDA WU.

More than 30 (in the short amount of time that we've been sending the app), from several different users.

What about client versions? I notice the one example you linked to was a fairly old version at 5.10.28.

Thanks to all that have tested the application!

So is this something "official" now that we will be able to make use of for the upcoming challenge? I'd hate to crunch 24 hours worth of work only to have it invalidated because it doesn't have an "official" blessing from Rytis. I ( we ? ) need clarification on this.

Rytis said ....
How often do your settings allow checkpointing?

To which I replied ...
I was not aware that checkpointing was determined by "my settings" -- Where would I check that?

Rytise, still waiting for a reply on this :)

FINAL UPDATE: I did not see exactly when, but somewhere between 8 and 9 hours elapsed wall clock time the task finsihed successfully and was reported.

UPDATE: Now over 6.5 hours elapsed and progress indicator at 228%. Still no evidence that checkpointing is happening from looking at "task properties" but there is a "checkpoint.txt" file in the slot and it has a current time stamp?

Contents of txt file ....
