1) Message boards : Number crunching : Conjunction of Venus & Jupiter Challenge (Message 124265)

Thanks for the suggestions to get multithreaded LLR going. I thought I'd let y'all know I was able to get it working. In case anyone else is wondering what I did...

First and foremost, Windows 10 will by default add a ".txt" extension when you select New->Create Text Document within Windows Explorer. That means the created file has a ".txt" extension. So when I created app_config.xml I was actually creating app_config.xml.txt. Doh!

Regarding restarting PrimeGrid: just reboot. Keeps things simple.

Regarding checking the Event Log: good suggestion. It resolved the first mystery I noted above. Just look for the entry "Found app_config.xml".

If I had my druthers I'd configure the app_config.xml to always run every LLR with as many (real) cores as on my machine. Doing it one-by-one - and specifying the number of cores every time - is a bit cumbersome. I wonder if anyone has any easy method for doing this?

I'm currently running three different boxes with SOB tasks using all available (real) cores. I'll post my run-times when I get a few under my belt, in case anyone is curious.

Thanks again for the help.

I tried that. Multiple times. I feel like I've missed something else?

I tried the instructions for "multithreading optimization instructions". When I select Option->Read Config Files it doesn't indicate (via a check mark or anything else) thait is selected.

The app_config.xml has the exact contents cited and is placed in the cited location, C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\www.primegrid.com

This is on a quad-core. On the off chance that there is no visual indicator, I have placed three tasks in "suspend" mode and the remaining task is only using one core.

Any suggestions? thanks!

I have some questions about PG tasks/terminology.

1) If a task is marked as "inconclusive", what does that mean? (I have a few SR5 tasks like this.)

2) I also have (22) SR5 tasks "completed, marked as invalid". How does that happen? These are isolated to one machine, but that machine seems rock solid to me. Although I doubt it, do I get credit for these? Any recommendations for how to stop generating invalid tasks? Or better yet, how to discover why my one machine is causing these?

3) When I find a prime, I see that my prime count goes up - but is there any way to backtrack and see the task that found the prime?

thanks.

Just to be clear...

If I see "PPS (LLR) v6.24" as the version, I'm running the latest AVX build?

thanks.

I've had issues getting the right Nvidia driver version to work with GeneferCUDA. What version of the Nvidia drivers are guaranteed to work? (I am currently running 285.66, but I see the latest version is up to 301.42.)

Why stop SGS? Presumably there are more twins out there - I vote to keep searching. It's a good project.

not sure if I am getting lucky, but My computers have found 3 primes (plus 3 double checkers) in the last 2 weeks..

Wow - that's incredible - how many PPS credits did you have to put in for that?

Well, after putting in about 300k credit on PPS alone and finding 5 PPS, I'm switching over to SGS. Maybe I'll have more luck there.

Thanks for the response - I am familiar with the "Primes found" link. However, it doesn't have a date associated with my prime. That is how I was curious Honza was able to figure out how I had 3 double checks in the past couple months. Cuz if you look at my "primes found" stats, I've got a couple dozen+ double-checks on PPS LLR:

http://www.primegrid.com/primes/?section=primelist&userid=34164

So to restate, is there a way to see the date a prime was found?
