11) Message boards : Proth Prime Search : Intel HD GPU app? (Message 75819)
Posted 2377 days ago by Profile cnamglaejoer
Additional info:

The same error (task fetch denied with PPS sieve for Intel GPU) has occured with the recent BOINC client 7.2.42 on Mac OS X 10.9.2.
I have reverted to the prior version 7.2.33 due to other work fetch issues with AVX10GFN; see Message #74165
http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=5559&nowrap=true#74165

Regards

Joerg

The PPS sieve for Intel GPU is currently not working on one of my boxes;

Scenario:
OS: Mac OS X 10.9.1 (Darwin 13.1.0)
BOINC client version 7.2.33 for x86_64-apple-darwin
OpenCL: Intel GPU 0: HD Graphics 4000 (driver version 1.2(Feb 7 2014 18:36:33), device version OpenCL 1.2, 1024MB, 1024MB available, 154 GFLOPS peak)

Referring to Message #67384 in this thread I have downloaded the corrosponding Mac application "primegrid_tpsieve_1.39_x86_64-apple-darwin__atiPPSsieveMAC" and have also prepared the corrosponding app_info.xml file in the primegrid project directory.
After adjustment of the rights and permissions of both files I have tested the application via the following command:

"...
$ ./primegrid_tpsieve_1.39_x86_64-apple-darwin__atiPPSsieveMAC -p42070e9 -P42070010e6 -k 1201 -K 9999 -N 2000000 -c 60
tpsieve version cl-0.2.3e (testing)
Compiled Sep 12 2011 with GCC 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5666) (dot 3)
nstart=76, nstep=32
tpsieve initialized: 1203 <= k <= 9999, 76 <= n < 2000000
nstep changed to 22
CL setup complete.

The corrosponding app_info.xml file has been modified as follows:

Upon update request via the BOINC client the task fetch was denied with the message

"...

Any support to rule out PEBCAK 2.0 is highly appreciated.

13) Message boards : Number crunching : Proposed badge level adjustment (Message 75222)
Posted 2394 days ago by Profile cnamglaejoer
I agree with the change concerning the badge level adjustment LLR <-> Sieve;
concerning the badge level adjustment to a more linear and less expotential increase I suggest to have this topic discussed in / moved to a seperate thread.

(i.e. make small simple steps towards change)
14) Message boards : Number crunching : Estimated time to complete and due dates (Message 75169)
Posted 2395 days ago by Profile cnamglaejoer
Hi Barry,

my experience is also that a calculation using the time elapsed and the progress percentage will give a reasonable value of the expected run time (given a progress > 5%).
I have three boxes crunching, and the values of the time remaining vary from reasonably accurate to far too much compared to the actual times for completion.

15) Message boards : Generalized Fermat Prime Search : No tasks are available for Genefer (Genefer AVX) (Message 74165)
Posted 2424 days ago by Profile cnamglaejoer
Wrap-up
Problem Desciption:
Platform and Client version specific issue;
Genefer (short) AVX tasks cannot be loaded;
"No tasks are available for Genefer"

Scenario:
BOINC 7.2.39 and Darwin 12.5.0 (OS X 10.8.5)
Genefer v2.04 (AVX10GFN)

After some testing the problem could be resolved by a BOINC client version downgrade 7.2.39 to 7.2.33.
In detail:
    1. Stop all running tasks
    2. Stop all running projects
    3. Terminate BOINC client
    4. Uninstall BOINC client 7.2.39 using the Uninstall BOINC.app in the "boinc_7.2.39_macOSX_i686/extras" folder
    Thus the user specific data are retained
    5. Install BOINC client 7.2.33. During installation you're warned that you're about to install over a newer version. Proceed anyways.

Hi Michael,

the troublemaker is indeed the laptop with the i7-3520M.
The GFN (short) task has been run under the some OS (Darwin 12.5.0 aka OS X 10.8.5)
I have followed your suggestion and modified the preferences in order to accept GFN (short) to run under the SS3 app.
Unfortunately the loading is denied with the same message as for the AVX app.
Furthermore, I don't have any other projects running on this box besides two PrimeGrid (Cullen LLR) tasks.

I admit I'm a wee clueless right now.
A newbie question: Is there another way to load (GFN) tasks besides via the BOINC GUI (e.g. CLI tools)?

Hi Michael,

thanks for your quick response.
I have already experienced the behaviour mentioned upon task suspension, and
I can exclude that I have tasks suspended.

Here's a log excerpt from an update request:
Do 6 Mär 20:58:04 2014 | PrimeGrid | update requested by user
Do 6 Mär 20:58:09 2014 | PrimeGrid | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
Do 6 Mär 20:58:09 2014 | PrimeGrid | Requesting new tasks for CPU
Do 6 Mär 20:58:11 2014 | PrimeGrid | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
Do 6 Mär 20:58:11 2014 | PrimeGrid | No tasks sent
Do 6 Mär 20:58:11 2014 | PrimeGrid | No tasks are available for Genefer
Do 6 Mär 20:58:11 2014 | PrimeGrid | Für die gewählten Anwendungen ist keine Arbeit verfügbar.
Do 6 Mär 20:58:11 2014 | PrimeGrid | Tasks for NVIDIA GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them
Do 6 Mär 20:58:11 2014 | PrimeGrid | Tasks for AMD/ATI GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them

(The client language is set to German; and the 7th line in the log excerpt basically is the German translation of the 6th).

The only client side difference to the scenario that had successfully loaded and run a GFN (short) task is that the BOINC client had been updated from 7.2.33 to 7.2.39.

18) Message boards : Generalized Fermat Prime Search : No tasks are available for Genefer (Genefer AVX) (Message 74136)
Posted 2425 days ago by Profile cnamglaejoer
Hi there,
For several days I have encountered the message:

No tasks are available for Genefer

although the subproject list on the main page gives roughly 100 GFN (short) tasks as available.
Just to narrow the number of suspects; I've already crunched one GFN (short) task on the box in question - Genefer v2.04 (AVX10GFN).
I'm running BOINC client 7.2.39 on Darwin 12.5.0.
What could be the reason for the message above?

If you need further information just let me know

Thanks in advance and best regards
Joerg
