1) Message boards : Problems and Help : Genefer World Record Task Help (Message 70539)
Posted 3202 days ago by Profile Rynaldo Stoltz
Update :

Still running strong after the suspend/resume and is now on about 13% with an estimated 212 hours to completion.

Quick question :

The elapsed time is showing 170 + hours. I didn't really pay any attention to this when the task restarted so i assume that the elapsed just carried on without restarting ?

Regards

Thank you for the rapid response Michael !

How weird ..

Alright ! I have suspended the task for about 10 minutes and just restarted ... seems to be running from where i suspended without any noticeable problems. However, i will keep an eye on things and give update here.

Hoping for a WR here:) !

Hi Michael

Have done as you said .. found : "checkpoint version doesn't match current test. Current test will be restarted"

Could someone please explain as to what this means ?

Thank you in advance

That shouldn't happen under normal circumstances. Could you post the rest of that file?

Hi

One of my setups are running a Genefer World record Task and was already around 45 - 50% completed (140 + hours) when i realized (this morning) , that the task had restarted and is now on about 5% completion.

Could anyone tell me why this happened ?

Thanks

Make sure you click on "Show processes from all users". The task that's using one of your cores is probably running under another user name, most likely System.

Thanks a million Michael ! Did as you suggested and found that NT Kernel (system) was using around 25+ of the CPU ! There was no way i could kill the task so updated a few drivers and restarted, and voila ! PG now on all 4 cores :)

Windows runs a LOT of processes in the background, and it's not necessarily a good idea to kill them just because you're not familiar with what they're doing. It's much better to research what the task's purpose is, and if it's not something that you want running, disable it via the appropriate controls.

Hi Michael

Great :)

Thanks a ton for your help ! Much appreciated :) Now , let me crunch away ... hopefully i too shall find me some primes ;) ....

Thank you for the rapid response !

I did exactly that :) The PPS llr task is now on 20% (1.35 hours) so x 5 will give me +- 7 hours completion time. What i don't understand is why this task is taking this long where generally (at least since i started crunching) , took me an average of 40 minutes max to complete a PPS LLR !

I have a few PCs crunching. The one in question : Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 330 @ 2.13GHz [Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 2] = 4 Processor

There are 4 tasks running on my client (full 100% CPU usage shared between these 4 tasks). This said, there is nothing else running or using the CPU from what i can see.

This is probably no big deal though :) Was just wondering why it's taking so long compare to all of the PPS llr tasks i have done before.

Thank you

There are 10 tasks (from different sub-projects) on that computer. Can you post the full task name of the 20 hour task?

The task name is pps_llr_207887629_0 (7 hour +- WU). Just trying to get a better understanding of things. Still learning :)

I looked at that task and there's nothing unusual with it.

A others have said, PPS runs a little bit longer than PPSE, but it should only be about 2 hours, not 20. Almost certainly, there's something else running on your computer that is consuming the CPU cycles.

Weird hehe ..

The only thing i can find is the following (in my task manager):

primegrid.cllr.exe Tracey 24 primegrid.cllr.exe
primegrid.cllr.exe Tracey 03 primegrid.cllr.exe
primegrid.cllr.exe Tracey 12 primegrid.cllr.exe
primegrid.cllr.exe Tracey 25 primegrid.cllr.exe

Perhaps a restart ?

Thank you for taking the time to look into this for me Michael ! Much appreciated !
