1) Message boards : Number crunching : LLR on WinMe (Message 4970)

Is LLR supposed to work on WinMe?

I have a WinMe PC and if I try to run LLR on it, the PC immediately locks up, requiring a hard reset and some very fast actions to try and stop BOINC running at startup and killing the PC again.

RieselSieve's LLR app does the same thing. The original prime application seems to work fine.

I did a few WUs yesterday and got credit for them, but my team didn't get any. Why's this happening? I'm still a member of the team and have been since I created it.

I can't compile the DLLs again as I don't have the compiler any more. :(

But it's fairly easy to do if anyone else has Visual C++ 2005 (not Express) - the instructions are here: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=163727&SiteID=1

Rytis,

The problem is that the C Runtime Library DLL itself (msvcr80.dll) is calling GetLongPathNameW and you can't avoid that.

NT4 is not a supported target for Visual C++ 2005, so I doubt Microsoft will be in any hurry to fix the DLL.

The only real options are (I think):

1) Compile with Visual C++ 2003 instead (which does support NT4 as a target).

2) Drop NT4 as a supported platform for PrimeGrid.

3) Compile your own modified copy of the CRT DLL which doesn't call GetLongPathNameW.

Option 3 is possible (I've done it myself), but you'd probably get into all sorts of problems if you start distributing a non-standard version of the CRT DLLs!

Hope this helps.
