1) Message boards : Number crunching : I can't get PG to stop sending CPU [resolved] (Message 37180)

Select 321 Prime Search (Sieve) and then uncheck Proth Prime Search (LLR) and Sophie Germain Prime Search (LLR). As there are no 321 Sieve work available, you will not get any CPU work.

Thanks, that apparently fixed the problem.

. . . will run a few Cullen/Woodall Prime Search (Sieve) CUDA to verify.

Have you got either Proth Prime Search (Sieve) or Cullen/Woodall Prime Search (Sieve) selected for your GPU?
Selecting no sub-projects causes the default ones to be selected.

Peter

My preferences look like this:

Use CPU Enforced by version 6.10+ no
Use ATI GPU Enforced by version 6.10+ no
Use NVIDIA GPU Enforced by version 6.10+ yes
321 Prime Search (LLR) disabled
Cullen Prime Search (LLR) disabled
Prime Sierpinski Problem (LLR) disabled
Proth Prime Search (LLR) CPU
Seventeen or Bust (LLR) disabled
Sophie Germain Prime Search (LLR) CPU
The Riesel Problem (LLR) disabled
Woodall Prime Search (LLR) disabled
321 Prime Search (Sieve) disabled
Cullen/Woodall Prime Search (Sieve)
Birthday/Summer Solstice Challenge project CUDA
The Riesel Problem (Sieve) disabled
Proth Prime Search (Sieve) disabled
Send work from any subproject if selected projects have no work no

I have [several times] tried to uncheck Proth Prime Search (LLR) and Sophie Germain Prime Search (LLR), but PG will not acknowledge the change.

How do I get PG to quit sending me CPU tasks?

. . . I have set my personal preferences to not use CPU, can't get the preferences [tried more than once] to uncheck Proth Prime Search (LLR) and Sophie Germain Prime Search (LLR)

I'm running BOINC client version 6.12.26 for windows_intelx86. . . could this be a Vista issue?

Just a thought:

I believe that once a Challenge starts, a countdown to the end would be more interesting than an elapsed time from the start.

Any parity in cross-project credits is a myth.
This discussion is not about cross-project parity, but about the way credit is granted in LLR subprojects...

. . . and what is the title of this thread?

Counting cobblestones for challenge with non-fixed credits would be the worst solution. For one WU you get 80 cobblestones, for the next one (with the same runtime) you get 120, because your wingman has a slow AMD processor, for the third one (again, with the same or even a shorter runtime) you get 400 because your wingman has inflated benchmarks...

So let's ignore one problem by substituting another?

A thread to discuss BOINC crediting and benchmarking.

John:

For the purposes of the PG Challenges, wouldn't just counting cobblestones be more reasonable than the esoteric formula that is currently being used?

But doesn't this misplaced overclaiming spoil the whole credit-system, doesn't it spoil your team's number 1?

Kalessin:

Any parity in cross-project credits is a myth.

All BOINCers who have been around more than a month realize that some of the most worthy projects are not very 'easy' with their credits, while others [we all know which ones] are cobblestone Coke machines.

Maybe an honest discussion of the elephant in the living room is in order, and a flame war is not.

Welcome to the Dog Days of Summer Challenge

PrimeGrid’s Challenge series continues with the Dog Days of Summer Challenge.

John:

Would you have a problem with Willy adding your countdown clock to the BOINCstats site?

I'll be there with as many of my teammates as I can muster or beg to participate.
