I have a question: Where can I find the challenge calendar for 2022?
Because I can see that the clock is counting down to the Heptadecagenarian challenge, and I don't know the details.

http://www.primegrid.com/prefs.php?subset=project

The PrimeGrid preferences page now lists two projects for the upcoming Heptadecagenarian Challenge project. I'm sure an announcement will be forthcoming well in advance of the start.

Hi.

I want to try the best multithreading settings for this challenge. What I need to run in command line?

Please read top post in thread for instructions on creating and using app_config.xml text file. Use plain text editor and make certain saved filename is as specified and not converted to *.txt upon saving.

I don't Get It

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you're kidding.

I think you misunderstood. The prime finder is the one that returns the first VALID result. A failing host doesn't return valid results.

Bingo.

All this talk about bad hosts could be done in the thread Bad hosts where it seems more on-topic than here in the 2019 TdP thread. (EDIT: That thread even starts from the discussion of the very same machine, hostid=153120.) /JeppeSN

Please split off these posts as JeppeSN has suggested. This topic has been discussed before. There are more than one such hosts on PrimeGrid - this is not some lone rogue machine. It's nothing nefarious nor a conspiracy. Some folks just never look at their machines or read the forums.

I'm on the latest Linux version (7.2.42 x64 GUI) and that option is not there. There does not seem to be an option anywhere to configure cache settings.

I used to be able to set my cache in computing preferences online at PrimeGrid under network settings, with separate preferences for each machine.

I no longer use this method since I have just one computer and do so within BOINC Manager.

I decided to see how fast the multithreaded CPU tasks are taking. In each chart below, p_model is the CPU type, count is the number of validated tasks, and elapsed and cpu are average times are in hours, with the fastest at the top. Each table is for a particular number of threads. I checked from 32 to 2 threads. If a thread count isn't shown, there's no validated tasks that were run with that number of threads.

Thank you for that chart.
9) Message boards : General discussion : Honary challenge in 2019 - what do people think? (Message 119671)

Maybe you should read that part again, it is actually 1 year and 2 days from now ;) ... much longer, yes that´s why I ask already ;) ... But thanks for your oppinion :)

BACK TO THE FUTURE!!!

65 days is a long time to commit if you have one computer. I think a lot of participants like to limit their other computer activities like web browsing, video viewing, or gaming for a short challenge just to maximize resources but 65 days is a big ask for many. That long of a challenge is going to end up feeling like no big deal after a couple of weeks and a single computer owner is just going to stop work when they need those system resources to do other things.

If I had multiple computers at my disposal I might feel differently but my interest level for a long challenge still wouldn't be as much as for the shorter ones. It would probably be a case of set it and forget it until the end of the challenge was near.
