and the only thing i hate more than being drip-fed information is being drip-fed *wrong* information. if you look in the thread you'll see the last post is me showing the last error message i got from following the often contradictory instructions further down that thread.
so how about we start from scratch here:
1. get file1 from url1, copy to directory1.
repeat for as many files as necessary.

Sorry, mackerel, i don't have a ...\boinc\primegrid folder, only a ...\boinc\locale one. however, i do have a <boincdata>\projects\primegrid one so i put the files in there. on a previous occasion a 3rd-party milkyway client also had to go in a <boincdata> subdirectory.

so far, so good. however, on restart primegrid refused to send me any wus, in spite of having thousands to send, and me ticking PPS LLR [CPU] so something isn't working.
are there any other oopsies you haven't told me about, eg 'you must first up/down-grade to boinc 5.01'. i'm currently running 6.12.34 (x64).

thanks anyway.

you may call yourself mackerel but your pic looks more like a mallard. :)

So, has anyone written the dummies installation manual yet? For us 'doze-ers, the tuxers know everything intuitively.

So I detached/reattached both boxes. D/l'd new code and wus. GPU utilisation rushed up to 95%... for about 5mins, before subsiding back to about 70%.
Pity, it was nice while it lasted.

I don't think that's the problem. I have 5 or 6 other i7s with a combination of 4870s and 5870s. They are all running 8 CPU wus simultaneously withh the GPU one, except for my i7 970 which is running 12 CPU wus.
All have a GPU utilisation in the high 80%/low 90%.
5870-based boxes have racs around 200k/day, 4870-based do about 90k/day.
That is except for the 2 running ccc11.5:
The 5870-based one has been getting about 140k/day.
the 6970 one about 100k:

I'm neck-and-neck with you on the senior moments. :)

However I'm wondering why both the 6970 and a 5870, both running on 11.5, refuse to run at higher than ~65% utilisation. My other GPUs, both 4870s and 5870s, running on 10.11, generally run at 90-95% utilisation. Much higher throughput...

Hi Zy,

I'm not aware that there is a ccc11.5-for-6XXX and a ccc11.5-for-non-6XXX, but I'll try to find out.
Thanks, I hadn't even thought of looking in that direction.

I just added an ATI<BS><BS><BS> AMD 6970 to a [i7 920] box [its previous 4870 died].
Installed CCC 10.11, which happily runs my 5870s, 'sorry, we cannot detect your GPU'. Uninstalled 10.11, installed 11.5.
Worked wonderfully, until about 90sec after boot, when boinc stopped benchmarking and started crunching, at which point it locked the desktop, requiring a hard reboot.
A couple more rounds of this and then I thought to get at boinc during benchmarking and snooze the GPU. Everything went smoothly, with boinc starting CPU-only crunching. And an hour later when the snooze was over the GPU started up happily crunching, albeit at only 65% GPU utilisation. That was yesterday.
This morning I got up to find that that box had crashed overnight. Reboot, same rigmarole, except that this time I was smart enough to hit snooze on the first round.

My question - does anyone have a 6970 running reliably, and if so then what driver version [and other incantations] are necessary?
