1) Message boards : Number crunching : Gennefer task keeps restarting (Message 81303)
Posted 1094 days ago by Barblovesroses
The task ended on its own so its no longer on my queue but it might be an issue to figure out why jobs like this don't run anyway...

Let me know if I need to do anything to help you figure it out further.

Running a Gennefer task and noticed that it keeps starting over and over so I checked the STDER file on it and found this:

So what is the problem with the error and is there something that I need to do with it to get it to run normally? I notice that it is looking for a 32 bit and my computer is a 64 bit so that may be part of the problem to begin with...however most things that are looking for 32 bit run ok on my 64 bit anyway as I have most of the software for both 32 and 64 bit setups on my computer so it normally isn't a problem but maybe it is for Gennefer???

Can you help me figure out what I need to do to get this to work on my computer?

Thanks!

Thank you for this discussion about work queue limits. It does make a lot of sense. I have played with mine from time to time making them larger than BOINC original defaults and while I liked having larger work queue's, I do understand about the rationale behind having smaller limits as well.

I presently have my queues at 1/2 days but may go down to 1/4 days and see how that works out for me.

I leave my computer running 24/7 and I have had work run out in the past but that was when I wasn't running as many projects as I am now so I don't think its as likely to happen as it did before.

As usual, I learn a lot from these forum discussions!
4) Message boards : News : Cheaters' credits rescinded (Message 64526)
Posted 1696 days ago by Barblovesroses
Thank you for releasing the names of the cheaters Michael. Those of us who are honest and wouldn't do something like this appreciate knowing who the dishonest individuals are so that we can avoid associating with these individuals in our future on any projects here on BOINC, not just this one.

It is important that this kind of information is known thru out the entire network, not just this project so that this kind of thing doesn't happen again not only here but on any of the other projects either.

Integrity is something we all expect from these projects we are participating in, many with our home personal computers, and many with our employer's computers. People who do not bring integrity and personal responsiblity with their actions to a site like this where we all depend on the honesty and yes, integrity of all the participants for our own safety and well being deserve to have their names made known and if possible legal action taken. These people are lucky its just their monnikers being advertised and not their full names as most people would be unable to identify them by these nicknames they are using.

I hope that Prime Grid is at least able to ban or highly restrict the access of these individuals to the project and if they can, I hope you take some legal action against the individuals who caused this grief to the project. If nothing else, they have caused you a huge amount of man hours in tracking this down and in rescheduling the jobs that are involved because of their fraudulent behavior. These people should not get away with what they did. You have the proof and you should go after them. Its not enough to just take away points.

Yes, I tried that too and it didn't make any difference either. I don't know what else to try.

Shouldn't matter since it's actually asking for CPU work:
11/3/2012 1:33:13 PM PrimeGrid Requesting new tasks for CPU and ATI

Nonetheless, Barblovesroses, if you have other tasks running suspend those projects (for the CPUtasks only) just to make sure only PG is requesting work.[/quote]

I'm sorry, but if I have to suspend all my other jobs just to hope to get this one job to run, I'd rather not run this job. Its not worth it to me. They are running just fine with no problems or complexities to get them to run on my computer but this has issues to get it to run and its not worth it to me. I have given it a good try today but if its this complex to get one subproject to run...well, its just not worthwhile.

I have a quadcore machine and generally there are 7 jobs running on my machine at one time. When the PPS job finished loading it immediately began running so I suspect it was in the 7th slot of the jobs that are normally running on my machine. I checked a while ago and there were actually 8 runnning at that time. It seems to depend upon the balance of CPU + GPU time needed by various jobs.

So I detached and reattached. I did get a task assigned to me by the system for Prime Grid, but not for the 321 Blast Off Challenge...it was for the PPS Sieve job which is another project I'm allocated to.

Must be all the tasks for 321 are allocated or something.

Anyway, I give up unless someone has any other great ideas.

CPU is enabled.

I finally did get the reset completed.

Still no new tasks generated though.

I feel like this is a lost cause for me.

I have run Primegrid jobs in the past and not that long ago, so I don't understand why this isn't running now. Very frustrating. Maybe I should detach and reattach. That is probably my next step here.
