1) Message boards : Number crunching : Abandoned Work Units. (Message 91054)

Thank you for the explanation. It appears to be not a big problem whatever the cause. I do not recall touching any of my machines since the start of the challenge. Never the less crunch on regardless.

Keep on crunching and have a nice day...

How does one abandon a Work Unit? I never come accross or never noticed this terminology but I wonder what did I do to abandon 433 work units in one day as shown in my error statement.

It looks like BOINCstats has been showing the stats from the challenge before instead of the current one everytime since January. I just made them aware of that Problem.

Yes. The BOINCstats has been showing the wrong challenge under each PG challenge name since January. The simple reason is that the challenge list was set up on BS pages before the first one started.. and then PG added another challenge to the list (the Pony challenge) This was never fixed on the BoincStats page - and instead the Pony challenge (#2) shows under the name "Double Top Secret Mystery Challenge" (#3) - - This is why it continues to show the wrong numbers throughout the year.

No doubt it would be better with no PG challenge stats showing on BS, rather than wrong numbers, that only leads to confusion.
But the best would be that it shows correctly on BS. ;-)

I am with you Moon. I have tried to report this twice to Prime Grid only to be jumped on and questioned and told that it is not possible to show 20million credits for one user and when they discovered that the stats was in BOINCStats all I was told that they can not do anything about that and I should take it up with them. In this thread you will find that the stats reporting has again been changed trying to rectify the problem no doubt. However, the problem is that it is not reported in the News section so that Stats sites could read them in the RSS feeds. It is no use hiding those changes buried in a message board threads.

Just to clear up a point guys. I said that I got my stats from BOINCStats and I was also looking at the Project Stats. Obviously they are not the same. Since it is Primegrid who exports their stats, I have no idea why they should promulgate such a waste results unless I am mistaken and have looked at the wrong stats Do not forget that Primegrid advertise their numerous challenges on BOINCStats some of us follow those stats because if I did not, I would not have been aware of the Challenge. The source I am referring to is this:

http://boincstats.com/en/stats/pchallenge/user/list/118/credits.

The time I looked at those stats was 0320 hrs 26 Jun 2014 UTC.

Again, BOINCStats is a third party site and we have absolutely no control over what they do with their website. We don't advertise any challenges there. We don't send them any information. PrimeGrid makes various types of information available for anyone to use. Many stats sites read those files from PrimeGrid and other BOINC sites and do whatever they want with that data. We, of course, have no control over what they do.

If you have a problem with BOINCStats, you need to contact them. We can't fix it here. And before you ask, yes, I checked that the stats files we're producing are correct.

Please close this thread for I have started this and I shall finish it as it is my provocative. I never accused anybody of cheating, I just pointed out that the stats appear to be wrong. I did not realize that Primegrid do not make mistakes. All I wanted is to report to you that I will not accept a score of Millions within two hours of the start. If Primegrid is not interested that a Stats site is misusing your exported stats and falsely reporting those wrong results than I have nothing further to do with PrimeGrid. Surely, it is not the users job to report that the stats are wrong at a third party Stats site.. How do I know it is wrong in the first place. I have been reading results of both Team and Project challenges from the BOINCStats site and I believed this to be the right thing to do. Nobody said anywhere on your site that I must watch your site only as most other project and Team Challenges do not have a reporting site on their project site.. First I have to go to the source and confirm it that indeed they are wrong. If you do not care what they publish than it is fine with me. There are over 70 projects that export stats correctly. If yours is not correct than why don't you say something to BOINCStats, it should not be my job. Better still.

Keep on crunching and have a nice day...

Please note that I am not interested running first in this challenge, but it is time to complain again.

The last time I complained I was told that it is not possible to gain credits for WU's issued before the start of the challenge. If this is still the case how is it possible to gain credits exceeding 20Million 2 hours after the start. There are numerous teams and users with high credits. At least 100 users have already gained credits. Surely this must be from Bunkering. In my case using a number of computers, 4 hours after the start, I am still at a % complete of between 50-70%. If bunkering is accepted than don't create the rule.

From the Rules:
"Scores will be kept for individuals and teams. Only work units issued AFTER June 25th 2014, 18:00 UTC and received BEFORE June 28th 2014, 18:00 UTC will be considered for credit.

I have no clue where you're getting your numbers from, but they're not correct.

Nobody has 20 million points in the challenge. No team has 20 million points.

At this point in time, the individual at the top of the leader board has about 144 thousand points, and the top team has 400 thousand points.

The fastest computers can crunch these tasks in about 2 hours, and some people use hundreds or even thousands of cores. There are some people who bring a lot of computing power to these challenges!

Furthermore, 1998golfer is correct in that someone with a malfunctioning computer (a full disk, for example) could potentially generate hundreds or thousands of seemingly "valid" results in a very short period of time. These might temporarily show up as valid scores on the leaderboard, but the system detects this pretty quickly and removes them. However, this has not happened so far in this challenge. There's only a very small number of invalidated tasks in the challenge.

I got those scores from a reputable Stats site BOINCStats. My understanding is that you provide those stats to them. If they are wrong, then you should warn users not to accept these stats. (I just checked those stats again Projects Challemge - PrimeGrid sovereign Challenge - users stats - 25 Jun 2014 - 28Jun 2014 at 0300UTC)

Having said thAt, I have also been watching your stats since start and I just can not accept that the scores were so high for some of them after 2 hrs is because they had a lot a lot machines. You have advertised that those WU's will take hours to complete on a fast machine. What I can not accept is that scores are given to at least 100 users in the first two hours. If they are erronous, than why do you give them credit in the first place, surely there must be something wrong with the way it is calculated and promulgated, don't give us false hope for this is a challenge. Don't give people credit than take them away, it is just not fair..

As I said, I do not care where I finish on the table, I just like to be included in what I perceive to be an equal field. If Bunkers is accepted than in future, I will also bunker, or just give the game away as most of 10 machines are i7 4930 or i73930 and I would have thought they are in the top class rigs, but to not see myself in the score amongst a hundred after 4 hours is why I am questioning what is happening. I also do not see any errors in my submissions. My machines are not overclocked and i do not see any sign of not behaving the way they should.

Although I stand to be corrected I feel I need to point out what I perceived what I read in the results of the challenge. PSP LLR is known to take over 114 hours to complete and the rules for the challenge states that 'Only work units issued AFTER 1 March will be considered for credit.

Please check results for I have noted that (correctly or incorrectly) some teams have shown result in the hundreds of Thousands within the first few hours after starting the challenge. This could only be if those teams bunkered days before the challenge which would give unfair advantage to the rest of the participants.

If I am wrong, my apologies for I can not prove what I perceived what I read. I am not really into this challenge and therefore it is not that important to me as I joined late, it is just an observation.

Well done PG for revealing this information. Xu Yongchen stated that there was some concern for not revealing the names of the culprits. Because of the action of a few the whole team needs to suffer as they too would have received credit for work not done. Apart from that, members of the team might not be aware who done the damage and would feel ashamed and no longer trust each other unless the culprits names were revealed. As it is impossible to acquire such large credit in such a short time, I believe that they should be named and shamed for I sure would not wanted them in my team should they wish to join.
