1) Message boards : General discussion : Clean Energy for Crunching (Message 103042)
Posted 868 days ago by Matt
Like me, many people here are probably concerned about the amount of power they use and its contribution toward climate change. I just recently found a new power company, Arcadia Power, which has allowed me to switch over to 100% renewable energy (indirectly). You would still be receiving the same electricity from your local power company, but Arcadia matches your usage with investment in wind farms and solar, the idea being that you would essentially be "carbon-neutral" in your electricity usage.

If you're interested in checking it out, here's a link that will save you some money on your first bill from Arcadia.

2) Message boards : Number crunching : cc_config, app_config, or both? Limiting which apps go to which video cards (Message 74799)

Thanks anyway. I was hoping I have a small error like that I'm just not seeing.

No, I'm trying to exclude genefer_wr tasks from my 7870 (GPU1) and exclude normal genefer tasks from my 7950 (GPU0).

Currently, I have this set up in my cc_config:

<exclude_gpu>
<url>http://www.primegrid.com/</url>
<device_num>1</device_num>
<app>genefer_wr</app>
</exclude_gpu>
<exclude_gpu>
<url>http://www.primegrid.com/</url>
<device_num>0</device_num>
<app>genefer</app>
</exclude_gpu>

For some reason, this results in Primegrid not requesting work for either app with "Not requesting tasks: don't need" even if I have no other tasks queued up. I've tried setting the work buffer everywhere from .01 days to a week with the same result.

Thanks for the warning. I own two of the CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD UPS and they've always worked for me in power outages, but I didn't know about the simulated sine wave issue.

Thank you for the reply. I thought that might be the way to go about it.

Thanks from me, too. This is exactly what I came to the message boards looking for.

Just to confirm, the app name to exclude for Genefer WR would be "genefer_wr"?

Edit: Just saw the answer to my question further down in your cc_config example. Is there somewhere we can look for all the app names for use in configuration?
8) Message boards : Generalized Fermat Prime Search : New genefer (3.x.x) apps now available for testing (Message 67874)
Posted 2130 days ago by Matt
I've looked through this thread and I'm curious what these .exe files in the intial post actually do. I apologize if this is a rather newb level question (I've never run an app_info) or if it's been answered elsewhere (I did look around but couldn't find a clear answer).

I know my processor, i7-3770k, is AVX capable but from what I'm seeing Windows is not automatically detecting that. Do I need to download and install the AVX .exe link in order to take advantage of AVX on Genefer? And will this necessitate my running BOINC in a different fashion?

Thanks in advance for any help.

9) Message boards : Generalized Fermat Prime Search : GeneferOpenCL for ATI: How much interest is there? (Message 65456)
Posted 2197 days ago by Matt
Responding to the original post in this thread, I am HIGHLY interested in a being able to do Genefer with my ATI card. I'm not sure where we're at with this as I only read maybe 1/5 of the few hundred posts on this thread now, so I apologize if I'm covering old ground.

I bought my GTX680s and then sadly discovered afterward that they aren't up to the task for DP projects. I then decided to upgrade the ATI card on my other PC so that I could do more DP projects with it, thinking this may be one of my main projects for that card. I knew I had done a lot of PPS Sieve tasks with my HD6950 and thought my new HD7950 would be able to handle those and the Genefer tasks. I then sadly discovered Genefer is CUDA only.

Any support for ATI cards would surely get my support. As it is, my AMD/ATI PC runs Milkyway 24/7 since it seems to have the best support for ATI cards that I've found. I would be very willing to throw it into this project if I were able to.
