1) Message boards : Number crunching : Not enough VRAM? (Message 110745)
Posted 1204 days ago by Felix Kaeufer
I can't recall when I got my last GPU work unit from one of the mentioned projects. Is there a log file in the BOINC directory?
Seti and Milkyway run perfectly with one exception in Seti work units.
I just investigated the reason for not getting any PG tasks a few days ago and thought it'll settle with reboots or a new OS release.

I could try to install the following versions on a partition: 10.10, 10.11 (don't know if they would work with a new iMac), 10.13 (stable release) and its release candidate (or gold master). 10.12 doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

Anyway, it's going to be pretty time consuming. But if it's the only way I would give it a try.

I hid my computers because I used to live in an apartment where the computer's name contained building and room number. It is now set to be visible.
I've taken a look into the logs from Einstein@home. They contain a similar line:
2017-10-10 10:29:52.1536 [PID=373 ] [version] OpenCL GPU RAM required min: 803209216.000000, supplied: 0.
So I guess I have to wait for Apple to provide a fix for their OpenCL implementation.

Lately scheduler requests are being answered with the following message.

Mo 9 Okt 06:39:42 2017 | PrimeGrid | A minimum of 250 MB (preferably 1500 MB) of video RAM is needed to process tasks using your computer's AMD/ATI GPU

The installed VRAM is 8 GB, so I'd imagine there could be an issue arising from the latest macOS release.
I'm getting a similar message from Amicable Numbers.

Edit: On the host information site it says:
CAL AMD Radeon Pro 580 Compute Engine (0MB), vbox 5.1.28r117968.

Similar problems: I received a few tasks some weeks ago, finished a great task this week, but there is no new task. I thought it might help to tick all possible projects in the PrimeGrid settings, but there was no effect. Log says: Not reporting or requesting tasks, when I try to update the Project.
