30 between 12 and 11. Looking unlikely we can close the gap at this stage.

I don't seem to be getting any CPU GFN work at the moment. In particular one machine that is currently I have configured only for GFN16-18 at 6:44 this morning (UK time) picked up PPSE and GCW sieve. I have since disabled the backstop option. I don't mind the PPSE but I did not really want the GCW sieve.

Wouldn't be a case that you have a task suspended?

I sometimes forget to resume a task and get no work on that box until I resume it.

Do you mean?

boinccmd --task URL task_name suspend

I have never done that. Sometimes when I do

boinccmd --get_tasks | less

I see SUSPENDED. I can find corresponding log messages. But this usually goes away after a few seconds.

No I just mean in the BoincManager gui, tasks tab, on the left there is a suspend button. If even one task is suspended then no other work arrives until you resume it. As soon as you resume, work starts flooding back in.

Never thought of running more than one sgs per core. Cool.

In fact, I am running 1 SGS task per core, as I force BOINC to use 25% of the available cores. To run 2 tasks per core, it would be:
<avg_ncpus>0.125</avg_ncpus>

Ah right yeah, thanks, I was getting confused. I Must give it a test and see the difference or if it makes any difference to throughput.

6) Message boards : Problems and Help : What did I miss to fix my GPU issue?! (Message 124924)
Posted 1 day ago by Profile RobishProject donor
I have a GT710 (stop laughing)

It worked fine when my box ran Linux Mint, but now I'm Windows 10 BOINC doesn't see it at all.

I have the correct Nvidia driver, the card works fine in Windows, even lets me see that CUDA is enabled on all cores, but BOINC doesn't see it.

Have I missed something really simple?

Thanx

Dad

Did you install boinc as a service? If so then it won't work.

No it's just old and not capable of running gfn I think.

My app_config.xml, on a 4 cores: Intel Core i5 2550K @ 3.4GHz (no Hyper-Threading). This requires tweaking BOINC so that it uses only 25% of the cores. With this and resource share = 0, I very rarely get any task in advance.

Do 'youse guys' use a app_config file to help with your WU crunching????

Yep, on all rigs. Makes huge difference on being 1st.

SoB tasks are huge and require big cache (6Mb if I am correct), so running 1 task per CPU should give a higher throughput than running several, even if CPU usage is a bit less. So moving to 1 task on 6 cores should help. I did the same on my 6 cores CPUs.

I estimate an addition 12 tasks from my side from the change so it should help close the gap.

We are in 12th position, with an increasing gap with the next team. So we should at least finish at that position.
BOINC@Poland overtook us a few days ago, in a big leap probably due to a bunch of slow CPU returning a bunch of tasks. We are now slowly reducing the gap. I would not put our hopes too high, but there is still a small chance of going up to n° 11.

With 5 days to go I've changed from running 3 tasks on 3 cores each to 1 task on 6 cores.

3 on 3 were taking 3 days to complete which means the last set will fall outside the deadline.

1 task on 6 cores is taking 24hours to complete so I reckon Ill get 5 more tasks on each box rather than 3 in the challenge and 3 not counted as they miss the deadline.

Any thoughts?

Also Dads 1 on each core should return 17 at the last minute so it WILL be close and exciting near the end.
