1) Message boards : Wieferich and Wall-Sun-Sun Prime Search : Ratio between near-WW primes (Message 157452)
Posted 226 days ago by Profile MiauiKatze

The leading edge is currently 16619.257P. ...
...about 42 more days before it will be completed at the current monthly rate.

So this is the last chance for badges?
2) Message boards : AP26 - AP27 Search : AP27 on ASIC theoretically possible? (Message 152109)
Posted 573 days ago by Profile MiauiKatze
Hello everyone,
I just asked myself if it would be possible to run AP27 on an ASIC or at least on some cheaper FPGA. I don't think about make this happen, it's just a thought.

It more or less just have to do effective sieving and look if there are some APs (lookup and counting in an array where it's saved if a number is prime).

What are your thoughts?
(And again, this is not meant to be a real project. If somebody want's to do, of course...)

Have a nice day,

But as Michael Millerick pointed out, where's the difference to a challenge?

I don't mean that they're competing, but crunching together. Not a team vs team or indivudual vs individual challenge, just trying to get the goal together.

Hello everyone,

Because I read the thread of an eventuell base 2 "G"CW Sieve, (https://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=9714#150883), I want to cite Michael Goetz:
To be clear, there's no need for additional *G*CW sieving at this point (or anywhere in the near future.) The interest is only for base 2 sieving.

And I thought something like "What if all computers attached to PrimeGrid would crunch Cullen-Woodall? Would GCW need a sieve soon then?"

So I propose something like this:
In contrast to a competitive challenge, where each individual and team tries to make the most points, we could make kinda "challenge" where we try to crunch (for example) one million GFN-18 WU's or most possible GCW-Workunits in 5 days. Just with the same idea as a challenge: "To focus on a single subproject".

What do you think about this?

6) Message boards : General discussion : an idea for speeding up LLR testing (Message 150933)
Posted 677 days ago by Profile MiauiKatze
I'm not an expert, but it sounds logical to me. But I doubt it is really that easy to implement. And does the modulo function really behave like this?

A math expert should look at it. What I wrote are just my 2 cents (or maybe even only one :D )

Best regards,

7) Message boards : General discussion : How do I look at previous attempts at a task? (Message 149642)
Posted 798 days ago by Profile MiauiKatze
I think in LLR2, it doesn't matter which run you run, not mattering if _0 or _1, because the previous one must be aborted, due to the automatic error correction.

So this "suppressed showing before completing" became useless, at least for LLR2 projects (It's what I am thinking...). It would be interesting if this "suppresion" could be deleted?
8) Message boards : Fermat Divisor Search : Fermat Divisor Search (Message 149641)

https://www.primegrid.com/stats_div_llr.php

If I'm understanding right, there are 15 tasks in progress and 0 waiting,
does that mean, that after these 15 WUs were completed successfully, the project will be terminated completely?

I'm a bit sad about that, becuase the tasks had a very comfortable length!
9) Message boards : Wieferich and Wall-Sun-Sun Prime Search : We set a new world record in WSS nearness (Message 149640)
Posted 798 days ago by Profile MiauiKatze
Kind of interesting would be a badge, which goes to the current world record holder. And maybe a badge if you had the badge once...

So not a fix badge, but kind of "travelling" badge...

That probably won't happen while my lungs draw breath. I'm very much against awards that get taken away from users.

Ok, I haven't seen that this way...
You are completely right!

There is the story, that in the TdP, one aborted all tasks which were fininshed by another one before, so he is the initial finder of eventual primes. To avoid that, the project administrators started to hide the result until the workunit has a defined result.

I don't know if this is true, but in my Team's forum, this was mentioned the way described. Please correct me if this is wrong.

Best regard,
MiauiKatze
