Problems and Help :
multiple GPUs
(Message 161342)
Posted 60 days ago by Scott Brown
Two ideas on possible causes of the slowdown:
1) Heat causing the second card to down clock. What are your temps?
2) 2nd GPU not in a full PCIe slot (x16), but in a smaller slot (x1 or x4)? Keep in mind that some motherboards will divide PCIe lanes when more than 1 PCIe device is in the same set of lanes. Usually, this would divide both GPUs (i.e., 1 x16 slot install slows to 2 x8 slots with two GPUs as the lanes get divided), but it can occur otherwise (e.g., 1 x8 slot divides across 2 x4 slots when second GPU shares those lanes with something like a PCIe NVME board, etc.).
If 1, work to reduce heat. If 2, you need to be in a different slot, or if none available, will need to look at a different motherboard.

Politics leads to the Dark Side. Or at least discussing politics leads to heated discussions getting out of control, resulting in lots of hidden posts and locked threads and many angry people.
No more talking about politics, please. I'd hate to have to shut down a thread where someone is asking for assistance because people are yelling at each other over politics.
The only anger caused is by childish admins who get turned on by deleting posts. A bit of harmless disagreement is not the end of the world. If this post gets deleted I'll assume you had an orgasm.
From here:
"No discussions about religion or politics."
"No messages intended to annoy or antagonize other people, or to hijack a thread."
"No messages that are deliberately hostile or insulting."
and
"Please don't discuss our moderation policy on the forums. We aren't a social engineering project nor are we in the business of creating a perfectly fair system. So such discussions tend to be counterproductive and potentially incendiary. If you have a legitimate claim, send email to the address below.

Please stop deliberately violating the rules of this forum.

So, first, I would advise not to post on the main board. It will likely start an unpleasant exchange and get moderated, so no reason to waste time.
My own view is it is your money, spend it how you want...period!
As to an explanation of why some things are "green" and others are not, that is a really complex discussion about social relationships, beliefs, norms, and informal sanctioning (throw in some collective behavior theory as well if you like).
But I think you can boil down the TSC vs. crypto mining difference to one fundamental thing:
1) TSC is used to support "scientific" discovery (one can debate the scientific merit of a given project, but that is the basic premise of BOINC overall), and thus, the energy usage is "worth it" in some way as it helps move knowledge/society/well-being/etc. forward.
2) Crypto is used to support personal enrichment, and thus, is not "green" because it is just energy usage for oneself.
I say the above without moral judgement, but as a mere explanation for why many will see those uses differently. Again, it is your own money, use it as you wish.
p.s. - I am not sure it is accurate that I in general use many TSC instances most of the time. For the SGS challenge, I used 430, which was by far the most I have ever used. In many challenges (e.g., the upcoming next two long work unit ones), I use no TSC instances at all. 95% to 99% of the non-cloud computing that I utilize on BOINC would be on 24/7 anyway, so it follows the original intent of BOINC to not waste that part of the energy being used.

Oh yes. Posts are not too difficult to do. All you need is a set of post-hole diggers and some line to keep the fence layout straight... :P
...but what if you wanted a curved fence?
Dig one post. Tie the string to it and the other to Lord Rat. Allow to roam free for a few days and dig the posts along the outer edge of the worn grassy area.
