1) Message boards : Proth Prime Search : PPS Sieve & sr2 (Message 70358)

Thanks for your responses, everyone. I'm not sure now what I saw. In looking at the link x3mEn gave, there are two sieve subprojects with the sr2sieve designation, but the sig graphics don't use that description. Now I'm so confused of what I saw earlier. I can say that the PPS sieve WUs you see in my sig now are all current WUs that I'm doing, none of them from before.

I think I'm declaring this thread done. :)

Thanks for your answers. You're right, I've never done any WUs outside the regular PG workload.

This was a subproject from a long time ago, maybe 2-3 years ago, maybe even further back. It was listed on my Free-DC signature as [project]-sr2. I'm almost positive the [project] was PPS. I'm currently doing PPS Sieve thinking that maybe I would continue the credit from the sr2 project, but instead it started a new subproject in my stats and the sr2 has disappeared. I don't remember if I had a badge for sr2, but if so it would only have been bronze (the lowest level). It totaled somewhere between 30k and 80k credit. I haven't paid attention to my total WUs or total credit to see if those were affected.

Some time ago I did WUs for Proth sieve sr2. I have done other subprojects since then and last week started doing Proth sieve again, thinking that the stats from this would be added to my stats from the previous incarnation of Proth sieve. Not only did it start a new batch of stats, which isn't a problem, but my overall stats have completely deleted my stats from the sr2 project. My signature graphic that has all the subprojects (below) also doesn't show anything from sr2, and I know it did until last week. The PPS sieve you're seeing is just from the current work my computer is doing.

Thoughts?

Yay, it worked! I think the server/computer needed to let the changes "settle" for a bit before updating my client. I also think the GPU aspects may have something to do with it; I ended up clearing the GPU-related settings from my computer's prefs in the program (rather than on the site, although I did it there as well).

Thanks everyone!

I just tried unchecking both GPU options. No good. I have all subprojects selected except Proth LLR, Riesel Sieve, and both Generalized Fermats.

Sorry, not working. I've changed both the computer's location to -- as well as the WU prefs page to have it affect --. I've also changed both entries to Home, since that is the location used for at least one of my other projects. I have it set to do equal time between three projects, with PG being one of them; PG has a bunch of time to make up, so I don't think that's an issue. Below is a bit of the event log; maybe that can help.

7) Message boards : Number crunching : Can't Download New WUs (Message 63190)
Posted 2266 days ago by Profile Heidi1Project donor
Greetings! I have been almost inactive from PG because I left my job (where I was crunching on my personal laptop) and my home computer can't download new WUs. I have a somewhat-new desktop HP with Windows 7 and it's connected to the internet via wifi. Does that make any difference? I can get Rosetta WUs just fine, so this is a cunundrum. I have tried many different settings, including computers, which/how many projects, extra time for extra WUs, etc. Thoughts anyone?
8) Message boards : Problems and Help : 2nd Core Not Getting New WUs (Message 58651)
Posted 2400 days ago by Profile Heidi1Project donor
Thanks, Michael. Uninstalling the old wrapper & installing the brand-spanking-new one did the trick. Uninstalling took a bit longer because the uninstaller couldn't find the .msi file, where the BOINC message boards helped me out. But now I'm all good, the SoB workunit wasn't lost (yay!), and I have about a dozen new Sophie Germain WUs to keep my second core happy.

I did end up deleting the cc_config file while I was at it. It may have helped with this issue as well, I'll never know.

Thanks so much, too, Honza & sheridan. It takes a small village to find out the problems, sometimes.

How long before your SoB is finished?

About 240 hours. It just started, so it's going to be a looooonnnng time!

Is it number of cores of % of cores?

I have two cores that I've set to work on a maximum at 100% of the time. My computer only has the two cores.

Any other projects attached?

Yes, I also have Einstein, but haven't done anything with it on this computer for a very long time. I keep it on hand in case PG is completely down.

Maybe you have your computer turned on only sometimes (not 24/7), BOINC gets little CPU and it thinks it can't finish SoB in time.

Very true, this is my work laptop, which is typically on only about 4 hours each day. However, whenever I do SoB or Cullen/Woodall, I usually leave my computer on at least once overnight to let it get some "real" work done and try to make it by the deadline. But, a single WU can't be crunched on multiple cores, so I would think that PG (or BOINC) would want to utilize as many computer resources as it can by crunching as many WUs as possible.

In client_state.xml, what are the number in <on_frac> and <active_frac>? Close to 1.0?

Here's that part of the file:
-<time_stats> <on_frac>0.215107</on_frac> <connected_frac>0.711563</connected_frac> <active_frac>0.867366</active_frac> <last_update>1351024703.456999</last_update> </time_stats>
So, no, it's not close to 1.0. I don't know what this means.

I also have this in my cc_config file, which my wrapper doesn't know what to do with:
-<options> <ncpus>2</ncpus> <use_all_cpus>1</use_all_cpus> </options>

if you manually update the project do you get new work? What does your logfile say?

No. Here are excerpts from my logfile from yesterday:
22-Oct-2012 15:27:07 [PrimeGrid] Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
22-Oct-2012 15:27:12 [PrimeGrid] Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
22-Oct-2012 16:10:47 [PrimeGrid] Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
22-Oct-2012 16:10:52 [PrimeGrid] Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
22-Oct-2012 16:42:39 [PrimeGrid] Computation for task TRP_sieve_2300151_1 finished
22-Oct-2012 16:42:41 [PrimeGrid] Started upload of TRP_sieve_2300151_1_0
22-Oct-2012 16:42:43 [PrimeGrid] Finished upload of TRP_sieve_2300151_1_0
22-Oct-2012 16:42:47 [PrimeGrid] Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 1 completed tasks
22-Oct-2012 16:42:53 [PrimeGrid] Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks

It never tells me why. That could be because I have an older wrapper, and I understand the newer versions of BOINC also gives reasons for any errors.

Are you checking your processor preferences in the client or on the server?

I was doing it mostly through the client, but I checked it on PG's server yesterday, and it was showing quite different amounts than what I had locally. I changed both versions yesterday so that they were the same, and I still don't have anything new.

Thanks for all your help!
10) Message boards : Problems and Help : 2nd Core Not Getting New WUs (Message 58610)
Posted 2402 days ago by Profile Heidi1Project donor
Greetings! I have a dual-core computer that only does PG work that isn't behaving correctly. Right now, I have a SoB WU that just started, taking up the resources of one core, and a Riesel Sieve WU that is just finishing up that used the second core. Now, I have my prefs set to communicate every .1 day, keep on hand 5 days' worth of work, and to use 100% of the cores available for my computer (I even set the max number of cores to 11 just to make sure that everything was being used). My Tasks tab only has the two WUs I mentioned above, no more WUs waiting in the wings for my computer to crunch when the Riesel WU finishes.

Now, for some reason, my computer doesn't request new work. I don't know why. I've tweaked everything I can that could possibly affect this (other than going into the override file) and nothing is forcing my CPU to get more WUs. I'm wanting my computer to crunch the SoB WU on one core and a bunch of shorter WUs on the other core at the same time, and it hasn't been able to do this for almost a year (I'm finally trying to deal with this now). I currently have 6.4.7; I don't know if updating BOINC would fix this, but I don't want to do that until SoB is finished.

Any thoughts?
