1) Message boards : Number crunching : Server time correct? (Message 57495)
Posted 3591 days ago by KWSN Sir Clark
The clock on my computer is correct....I've checked against various clocks.

When I report a task on my computer and then check it against the time in my results, the time in the results is 3 minutes into the future.

Reported result at 20:23 BST, result listed on here as reported at 19:26 UTC

Someone forgot to program the countdown clock to stop at zero.

It's counting up now.

D'oh!

I went into client_state.xml and knock it down by two to 1.1

I noticed it had dropped since then so at least it's going in the right direction

Hi,

My Duration Correction Factor has doubled to 3.2 over the past 24 hours.

I did some experimental GPU WUs but obviously didn't have the right setup and they errored out so I abandoned that almost immediately.

Would that be a factor?

Computer details

Fortunately I'm only crunching PrimeGrid - solely PPS (Sieve).

It's estimately 125 hours for a WU that takes 12 hours to complete and at least one WU is permanently running with High Priority

I had the same, just forced another 'update' for the project and got a bunch

FYI...over 12,000 WU's were aborted during and shortly after the Challenge. While not necessarily a bad thing, it will make the clean up process that much longer. :( 3 days might be too agressive so anticipate closer to 6 days.

Thank you to everyone sticking around to help clean up. Your effort is greatly appreciated. :)

Not sure whether i got any back in the timeframe

I had to reduce BOINC to using one core as it was getting rather and the CPU fan was working overtime (and causing a racket)

Oh well. Slowly getting through them one at a time.

Which page was that on? I tried looking but couldn't find it.

Is that good or bad for a user with one PC?

9) Message boards : Number crunching : Trojan boinc installation by rogue member (Message 4859)

An AV may not catch it but any good firewall should have flagged it up when it was trying to make connections.

Mind you, from what I understand it was named with a similar name to Windows Update Manager's process name so people probably would allow it to connect.

Probably best to ditch Win and switch to Linux or Macs

Alternatively you could create a user called Unknown or Various and give them the credits if it's possible
