1) Message boards : Problems and Help : Guidance on disabling "boost" overclocking? (Message 138816)

Thanks! Any thoughts on what the solution might be if Afterburner allows me adjust maximum temp but not maximum clock speed? (Beyond admin mode, fresh install, driver updates, and rebooting)

My GPU WUs take a long time and frequently fail, and I think I've narrowed it down to nVidia's "boost" mode. I've tried several things, including nVidia's myriad tools, MSI Afterburner, and a few other software tools I'm now forgetting. None of them have allowed me to disable boost mode or adjust/limit clock speed in any sensible way. I've been avoiding messing with the BIOS just because of the risk factor.

Any suggestions on how to do this? If going the BIOS route is the only way, can you recommend a good tutorial/walkthrough?

Shoutout to my team! I make up 1/2 the active team and provide like 1/40 of the computing power. So I guess also shoutout to long coattails

Thanks all!

I have 12 cores and a GPU. I'm trying to do 2 MT tasks w 5 cores each + a GPU task. So my settings are 5 threads and 3 max tasks. This works fine most of the time, but sometimes I'll return to it and it's doing 1 CPU, 1 GPU, and holding one GPU WU. (That's weird too because it's set to not pre-fetch.)

My hypothesis is that sometimes when it reports a CPU WU, it sees there's room for another task and prioritizes fetching a GPU task. Is that the case, and can I control it?

Given all that hardware you're packing RFGuy_KCCO, I'm not surprised at all! :D

Well we all know the best way to win a Tour is doping :-)

I gotta tell y'all I have been so hyped for the Tour de Primes. I was super disappointed I only got a double check last year, but that machine was slow as all getout. My new machine is plowing through the PPSEs like nobody's business so I think I got a shot. I can't wait for that sweet, sweet taste of prime discovery, I really think it might happen this year.

I... don't have a lot else going on in my life.

Could be, but how do I throttle down to see if it is this problem?

I believe the most common program is MSI Afterburner. It's GUI and you don't have to mess around with the BIOS.
